Been getting involved on reddit over these two idiots in love and finally got myself on AO3 as well, and now dipping my toe in to writing fanfic for the first time ever. Arcane just has that much of a grip on me.

Pretty Cold Heart

A modern-ish AU where Vi and Caitlyn have never met before but Vander and Cassandra have passed away. Vi has been visiting Vander’s grave for over a year every Friday because that’s the only time of the week she can get some privacy, when a dark blue-haired girl shows up at a new plot a few rows over. Once Vi and Caitlyn meet, she feels compelled to make sure Caitlyn isn’t grieving alone like she had to years ago.

Friday evenings were the perfect time to visit the cemetery. Most people got off work and wanted to begin enjoying their few days off attending dinners or parties. No one wanted to start the weekend off by spending time with the dead.

It was just as well for Vi. She’d been visiting Vander’s grave like clockwork since she got out of prison a year ago. Parties weren’t really her thing and she enjoyed the solitude these evenings gave her to share a glass of whiskey with his memory for at least an hour every Friday. She always brought two glasses, one for each of them.

For the past few weeks, Vi had been out of town on a trip and missed her weekly evenings with Vander. She was eager to get back to routine. Things hadn’t been the same since he passed, and talking her problems out with him every week always made things feel a little bit more bearable. She missed feeling like she mattered, and Vander always gave her a sense of purpose. The whiskey was there because it helped when missing him got to be too much.

Walking back into the cemetery, excited to unload her stories from her travels, she realizes she’s not alone.

I've only ever seen this frame/moment pointed out on tiktok (of all places) so ima yap about it.

Arcane visual storytelling how I adore you.

In this moment, we see the final shift in Caitlyn’s priorities and sense of self. She's been slipping out of her rage and hatred for awhile, but even seeing Jinx in the commune made her a little spicy again.

Still, this moment speaks to me as ALMOST as powerful as the jail cell. The person she's been hunting for months slams right into her shoulder and Caitlyn doesn’t even look, doesn’t tear her eyes away from Vi, who should have been her beacon and priority all this time. Who she WON'T tear her eyes away from again.

This moment is like a second long and I think about it daily
