Also I am begging people that aren't impacted by orientalism to actually listen to the people who are about why we may not like the term yume. People will come up with every single thing they can to try to justify their use of the term and I'm sorry, but you should maybe stop and think about why it is that you see no issue with it when Asian people have repeatedly explained what the issue with the explosion in popularity of the term yume specifically is. Yume is a specific subculture online but it's an Asian subculture, and a lot of non-Asians have co-opted that while misusing terms related to it. Nobody is going to force you at gun point to stop using the term, but please consider why it is that you might immediately get defensive about your use of it when others have talked about how its popularity is a product of cultural appropriation

you do realize that cishet men deciding to goof around with things that are traditionally feminine doesn't automatically mean that they're queer, right? you understand that?

maybe this is a hot take, but goofing around with gender expression isn't restricted to queer people, nor should it be. cishet men can wear skirts and eyeliner. cishet girls can bind and cut their hair short. cishet people can get funky with presentation and still be happy as their agab. stop reinforcing gender binaries by calling every seemingly cishet person who decides to deviate from gender norms an egg

Doomed siblings have me on a chokehold in a way no trope can ever achieve. Something so gut wrenchingly beautiful about two kids going through unimaginable trauma and coming out damaged forever. I always eat it up. Maybe they stay together and find solace only in each other, used and kicked out by society! Maybe they end up on opposite sides of the war! Maybe they end up betraying one another! Maybe one of them dies haunting the narrative forever! Maybe one of them destroys the world for the other! So many endless tragic possibilities!

I hate AI just as much as the rest of us, and I think I've been vocal about that enough for everyone who frequents my blog to know, but I've been noticing a big rise of paranoia about generative AI over the past few months and it is genuinely scary as an artist.

Real artists make mistakes, draw their characters or subjects off-model a few times or take shortcuts that "won't be noticed" to make the process easier because they genuinely wouldn't be noticed before everyone started investigating every inch of every drawing for "signs of AI". Sometimes there's stylistic choices that just look like random lines. Sometimes there's inconsistencies and errors. Sometimes we just don't know how to draw something perfectly yet.

And I don't know. Seeing artists ask questions about making their real, human art look 'less like AI' because their specific artstyles have been fed to the machine too much; backing up speedpaints not for the intent of sharing them, but to use as proof in the case that anyone claims their hard work as AI; and those people claiming every other imperfect drawing (with flaws I've seen and made myself before AI was ever a real concern) as artificially generated with no evidence just feels so dystopian.

Fuck AI, but fuck accusing real, human, flawed and imperfect artists of faking their work too. All art has flaws, that is what makes it human. This witch-hunting is doing nothing but scaring real artists away from posting their work online.
