A pair of antique c1890 niello decorated silver watch chains connected together to form a 20 inch necklace.
Niello is a black mixture of copper, silver, and lead inlaid into engraved silver. It's a centuries old technique, but it was particularly popular in France, Germany, and Russia at the end of the 19th century.

An unusual handmade kinetic ring with a sculptural yellow gold form an a white gold wire than twists from one side of to the other where it terminates with a round diamond. Three little disks slide along it. Very comfortable to wear and a satisfying fidget. Marked GCL inside with an Israeli 585 gold hallmark. Perhaps a studio jeweler associated with the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem. Weighs 8.5 grams.

it's me and my two sources on medieval strap-ons against the world
Right, so.
Source One is Burchard of Worms' Decretum, Book XIX. The Decretum was a collection of canon laws compiled in the early half of the 11th Century. Book XIX, or The Corrector, was a penitential: basically a guidebook for confessors. Here's a sin, have u done it, here's your penance.
One of the questions for women was, essentially, "Did you make a dildo, strap it to yourself and fuck someone with it?". The original text is in Latin, and there's a few translations floating around of what it said. Here's one, which I spent the past three days looking for, because I wanted a direct source:
Have you done what women are wont to do: to make a certain device in the form of a male member to the measure of your will, and to tie it to your own or another woman's genitals with some ties, and commit fornication with other women, or others with the same instrument, or with another with you? - Translated from Latin, taken from "Die Bussordnungen der abendländischen Kirche nebst einer rechtsgeschichtichen Einleitung", F. W. H Wasserschleben
Pretty cut and dry re: the use of strap-ons. And dildos, because the next question is "and did you use this device on yourself?"
The second source is from the trial of Katherina Hetzeldorfer, specifically Female Sodomy: The Trial of Katherina Hetzeldorfer (1477) by Helmut Puff, which has an analysis of the trial as well as a translation of the trial texts.
Katherina is the first recorded woman to be executed for homosexuality. There's a lot to be said about her and the way she performed gender but what I'm interested in today is the strap. So, from the court text itself:
...She made an instrument with a red piece of leather, at the front filled with cotton, and a wooden stick stuck into it, and made a hole through the wooden stick, put a string through, and tied it round; and therewith she had her roguery with the two women...
And there we go! Two sources about people in medieval times using strap-ons, one from around 1020 and one from 1477.

I believe that the world’s problems can be solved in the bedroom. … S&M is a liberating game; it liberates both man and woman, butch and femme without necessarily taking their chosen roles away from they (if they still want to keep them once they understand the game). S&M teaches you that both sides have the power and how they can use it to their best advantage. —Rosenjoy, in GCN, 1976

a girl and her watermelon piece
oh i'm happy that people enjoyed looking at this animal with me.. it's fun to be nice to an animal and with bugs it's often more okay to do than with other animals since it's unlikely you will socialize them to humans to their detriment.
Watermelon piece is a good offering towards any adult wasp, but being a mud dauber she is a great wasp to observe, since they are not very aggressive and their sting is not too bad. I waited until she was a little more hydrated and started grooming herself to remove her from the house, since she was visibly quite dusty i knew it would be the next thing she would want to do.
a really funny behavior was that although she was completely content to be observed by humans, she saw an ant on the counter and got visibly upset, which is understandable since an ant wants to eat a weak bug a lot more than humans do. I removed the ant to keep her from getting too stressed out. she was so mad about the ant and even though it makes sense i thought it was pretty funny since wasps can tell who humans are. she knew we were hanging out and that part was fine, but an ant is just too much!! eventually i put her and her fruit outside.
I think a lot of the people coming to our events don’t understand that they aren’t yet part of the leather scene
it’s not just kink
it’s not just an aesthetic
it’s not just a party at a bar you show up to once a month
leather is a distinct culture & it’s highly community based
if you aren’t showing in solidarity for our local Onyx chapter or our bootblack guild, learning our history and talking to our elders, talking to the leather folks who are different from you, or showing any interest in engaging in community outside wearing your doc martens & amazon dot com bulldog harness to a bar to play pool (with the friends you came with), sorry babes but that’s not leather!!
don’t show up to our space and be disrespectful to fat butches, trans women, and bipoc leather folks. I can see when you are only talking to other skinny white people.
don’t show up to our space and side eye the leathermen at the leatherdyke event who have been allies to us, even when we weren’t in the room. we personally invited them, you just saw a flyer on the internet.
don’t show up to our space if you don’t want to learn and do the work outside the bar. it’s not cute to be incurious about the community whose event you are entering.
we vet for a reason, we are watching the new folks.
I don’t want to see our culture get diluted because we created more visible entry points.
its gonna be so nuts when our generation of old people is shuffling around with big stupid meme tattoos imagine being a personal support specialist in 2080 and peepaw has a bee movie script sleeve and youre twenty years old and delivering pills like dude what is that and he goes Its from a movie about a jerry seinfeld bug lusting after a human woman who looks like flo from progessive who is still a prominent american cultural figure and you say OK and then you help him plug into his VR headset to play for2nite the sequel to fortnite and he mains former president hunter biden and then you go on lunch break and pay $75 for a ham and cheese sandwich

My postcard for pride month.
Inspired by this 510 BCE depiction of Sappho, and the joy of being in rooms of fellow gay & trans people making music & art, telling stories, and playing games together lately.
I'm grateful to the many people I've met in my area over the past few years who have been working hard to build spaces for that to happen in -- especially Cas, Lids, & Ryan.
Happy Pride, everyone.
