Artifact Map
Scavenger Hunt.
This is a project that helped immensely in learning about design elements. We were required to find certain elements and link them to the next picture. I linked color, shape, line, space, and form. This was a fun project that required you to become very aware of your surroundings. This project also helped me explore different points of views.
Symbol Methodology.
Several stages occurred during the process of this project. We were instructed to make symbols representing a subject of our choice. I already knew I wanted to do Star Wars, so I started off by making a huge mind-map that consisted of anything that had to do with Star Wars.
Once I decided I wanted to do the iconic characters, I started listing off characteristics and personality traits of theirs. I then began to sketch out symbols that represented each trait. We were then instructed to combine symbols and do several iterations.
After I figured out what my symbols were going to be, I drew them with pen, scanned them into Illustrator, and vectorized by using the pen tool. I learned a lot from this project including Illustrator technicalities, usage of negative space, and scale. I especially liked my Princess Leia symbol, and how the symbol looks different depending on your focus of the negative space or positive space.
Rubber Duck.
This was my first experience with the Illustrator pen tool. Our objective was to trace a rubber duck using the tool. I definitely wasn't very good at it my first time around, which you can see with my duck on the left. I learned that in order to get better results, you should make as small amount of points as possible. After having a little bit more experience with the tool, I re-did my duck, and am pleased with the improvement.
Type Specimen Book.
This book was definitely the most challenging project I did in Typography. This was my first experience using indesign and the first book I have ever made.
I learned a lot from this project, especially learning how to use a grid. I had a hard time arranging the text in a way that was easily readable as well as aesthetically pleasing. In the end, I was happy with the result that I got and I really liked the color scheme I used.
Design Culture Now.
This was one of my favorite projects that I did in Typography. I really liked having the opportunity and freedom to design the poster however I liked. I explored the use of transparencies and texture backgrounds. I struggled with this poster, trying to fit all the text in a cohesive way as Maria Giudice's bio was larger than the other designers.
Prototype.
I was instructed to make a type face using a grid without "stair stepping." I first did several iterations in pencil, trying to come up with the best solution to execute these letters. This project taught me how important iterations are and that there are endless possibilities if you allow there to be so. I was happy with my final result, and I liked the consistent stroke throughout the letters.
