some people weren’t built for relationships. their coasts were too wild and raging to be tied down. like sailors and the sea. rust has suspected he was similar, but he kept trying with the hope he was wrong, and all the exhaustion would pass with the right person. was it selfish of him? she cured many things but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t inevitably tire of giving to him what he might not ever be able to return.

rust tilted his head one way in response to her question, letting it go unanswered with more soft kisses. he wasn’t trying to push his lust in place of romance— but the way his body perceived was eager, and maybe, if not— impatient.  ❛ i would suggest you visit me at work but… ❜ both of them knew that was an unwelcome distraction, and he’d most likely be cold towards her for the sake of a sound, diligent mind.

he found the knot easily without looking, his thumb and forefinger pinching at it until she was able to get it free. both ties slacked to her sides, and he further extended his invitation by replacing his hands inside the confines of her robe. first at the shoulders, so he could push it off and let it slide down her arms— and then traced his restrained, but soft touch along the subtle curves of her hips.  ❛ — i wouldn’t be able to do this to you. ❜ one hand lifted to cast aside her midnight hair, replacing the tickle of long locks with his mouth. kissing along the crook of her neck, he pulled her hips tighter against his with one hand reaching to the low of her spine.

alana was not without faith in rust. often she thought he was much too hard on himself, though she didn’t dare tell him so. any relationship, with precious few exceptions, ended in hurt when it did, in fact, end. this one would be no different. it was a risk, just as anything else would have been. and she was glad to take it with rust. he possessed a quiet that she deeply respected, especially considering the noise that was sometimes inclined to take over her own mind.

her lips twisted into what was the combination of a smirk and a grin, and she let out a low chuckle, face still pressed close near his, but lips not touching. the thought had crossed her mind; whether or not to drop in on him, deliver some affection during a long day. but rust seemed to have too complicated a relationship with his work, and alana did not think she held any place near or in it. the detective work was something privately his; he could speak to her about it should the desire arise, but she didn’t particularly see the good in prying where he seemed to value aloneness.

the touch brought her back out of the recesses of her own head, and she allowed herself a quiet but indulgent sigh as his hands chased the fabric off her shoulders and away from her body. her eyes slipped closed as his lips pressed against the skin of her neck, and she gently untucked his shirt and tugged it off. ❛ mm... you sure? ❜ she teased, ❛ there’s not a nice quiet broom closet somewhere? ❜ alana nuzzled against his cheek. ❛ how about you get me out of sight, huh? too many windows down here. ❜
