literally that’s the only real thing steve learned in s5. that’s his BIG arc. they absolutely wrote it with this in mind and then cut it, but the roots are still there — otherwise what! was! the! point! steve and dustin getting closer doesn’t count as growth. they already were close. the actual progression is dustin moving on… and steve preparing himself to be there for mike next.
