“The reason we don’t have effective protections for climate change (or functional gun control, or universal health care, or cheap broadband) is because the U.S. Congress is often too corrupt to function. Monied interests have polluted state and federal legislatures to the point they no longer serve the public interest. This isn’t some errant opinion, it’s a documentable, provable fact. Yet you’ll notice that for the New York Times, the idea that the structural and ethical integrity of the U.S. government has been wholly compromised by the extraction class simply plays absolutely no useful contextual role in the story.”

I believe Heated Rivalry really ruined excuses for the rest of the TV shows.
Oh, you need two years to release 8 episodes? HR filmed 6 episodes in less than 40 days.
You need more budget to pay high profile actors? HR took a risk with aspiring unknown actors because they were promising in the audition.
You butchered a language on screen? Connor Storrie delivered a monologue in Russian after learning the language for just a few weeks.
You added more dialogue to your adaptation to explain feelings? Hudson Williams delivered emotional rollercoaster performances with just his eyes.
HR is the standard now for book adaptations.

Yes, twice that I know of I was vaccinated, thankfully. First round felt like a horrendous flu, but with the most fatigue I've ever had. Lasted about a week, no lingering symptoms. Second time was never confirmed, despite testing-- but I had the symptoms and negative for Flu, and weirdly, had a viral rash body-wide that appeared about two weeks *after* I was well again, with no other symptoms. Just a rash. That went developed head to toe, like a loading bar. So weird.
AAaaahhhhhhrgh
Heated Rivalry is holding everything together for me right now. Heading back to work after two (unplanned) weeks off to settle in a foster dog (stress) My mom wanted me come up for Christmas, understandable. I said probably not the day of (I have like, people here, where I live, to spend time with too and a dog who can't travel) probably the weekend, if that would work for a few hours. "Probably"- in case it didn't work on her end, or if I needed to shift what days for work reasons. A few hours, because it's a six hour round trip drive and traveling is really anxiety inducing for me. Got told I hadn't prioritized her enough, and she was really upset about it, and to just not bother as she and my sister would go ahead and make their own plans unless I deigned to show up. Cool. Thanks. Trying to establish my own boundaries and also accommodate any of her plans for those days and my work schedule. And, I have a car repair. But hey- great gay hockey show.

I get why people these days use AI to talk with, form friendships with, etc. How do people make friends as an adult :/ *all* of my friends were friends of a single friend growing up, like vicarious friendship. I had work friends (never saw them outside work), and hobby-friends (specifically, horse barn friends who I adored but also only saw when doing stuff at the barn). I don't have work friends now, and I don't have access to hobbies that I like. It seems bizarre to make friends by regularly engaging in hobbies I *don't* like (hey, we don't have this thing in common at all- in fact, I hate this activity (: Wanna hang? ) ...how do I adult...
But what if I...
I have the possibility of getting myself a Corso for my birthday... He is with a local rescue. He is the right age (NOT a puppy), has professional training and comes with several sessions of training going forward, the right demeanor/energy level for what I'm looking for, I've made it to the final round of potential adopters for him... It's just. Should I? Cane Corsos are my dream dog. I've done extensive research on them and other working/guard breeds and mastiffs, and they seem the most -medium energy- -very trainable- of the lot, just not something I wanted to take on as a puppy. Seeing a two year old with a good amount of training already is like, Perfection. Not sure I have the space for him...but, he's not going to be an apartment-pet, he'd be out and about with me almost all the time going to job sites, hiking, paling around town. This is the first time I have a (small) yard to use too, anyways. But...jobs are insecure right now and costs for everything are going up. Ugh, it's like- The Perfect Fit but possibly not at the right time...

The left: if you ban abortions, they’ll just happen illegally
Also the left: if you ban guns, we will all be safe from gun violence
We literally have data to show this is what happens. Like we didn’t just pull this idea out of thin air.
People in abortion-prohibitive states or countries always find ways to end their pregnancy, even if that could mean they harm themselves or take their own lives while doing so.
People in countries with gun bans or restrictions hardly have any gun violence because they work. Look at Canada, harsh gun laws, hardly any mass shootings, and all done despite being literally attached to the Gun Capital of the World.
Please just do a little research and think.
THIS These are different things, with different mechanisms and drivers behind them. Or, to people who point at gun-restrictive cities as still having gun-violence? It is vastly easier to drive a block (or a few miles) outside of town to where one can legally purchase firearms, and drive back in to town than it is to cross the borders of a country to purchase firearms then come back across borders. Spotty gun laws from city to city don't work well; gun laws across a nation do. (in combination with other factors, yes).
