“whoever thought it was a good idea to let me watch their kids for money is an idiot. i’ve got cheetoh stains on my white polo and i’m sure i’ve been infected by the many different viruses and colds these kids are passing around every time they sneeze or cough without covering their mouths or washing their snotty hands.”
“that’s disgusting, have you tried to look for a new job? one without all the gross parts, obviously.”

“yeah, i guess. the big one is the free healthcare, really.” she shrugged, looking over to her younger sister. “damn, that’s probably true. maybe i’ll marry a canadian and get citizenship that way.”
“i think free healthcare would be nice, but they must have high taxes or something.” brooke shrugged. "marry a rich canadian? first you have to meet a rich canadian."
But darling there was no spark left for us We won the battle but lost the heart
cherry was walking out of the store to her car, bags of groceries on her arms. one hand holding her keys to unlock the door and the other holding her phone. too busy typing away, she doesn’t realize when one of her heels snaps out from under her. “oh fuck ! “ she exclaims, without considering who’s around, her fall sends her keys and phone flying.
brooklyn was waiting for a ride home. they'd been taking way too long and she could only stare at her phone for a small amount of time before it got boring. sighing, the blonde unlocks it again only to be inrrupted by the skidding of a phone on the ground. picking it up, she runs over to the girl who seemed to have fallen. "are you okay?"

“It wasn’t weird at all, love,” she smiled. “I’d rather you ask than sit and wonder about it. I’m always happy to answer questions that my children have for me,” she smiled. Genesis took another sip of her water and thought about what she’d just said. there were things she wanted to keep secret from her family.
Brooklyn nods. "Okay," It was comforting to know she could ask Genesis anything. Brooke knew that she probably could from the start, but this confirmation just seals the deal in her mind. "Don't let Penny hear you or else she'll ask you about like, the birds and the bees and all that."

“i mean honestly, why not? they have moose, it snows, their healthcare is free, they just seem so nice. they don’t have a carrot for a president.”
“it snows in america too. they seem nice, but i dunno if they actually are. plus you’d have to wait years to get the healthcare ‘cause you’d be waiting on the canadian citizen.”

Maybe Genesis was making up for something that had nothing to with the children but she did mean what she was saying and she hoped that it would make sense if not now in time. She gave the girl a smile and moved to drink from a glass of water she’d poured for herself. “I want you both to feel at home here, I want you to thrive.”
“We’re trying our best." She says, twiddling her thumbs on the table. She didn't know what else to say. It felt too weird to start blabbering out thank yous or apologies, but Brooke figured that Genesis wouldn't really want either of those. "I hope it wasn't like..weird of me to ask that." It probably was, but she couldn't help her own curiosity sometimes.
“d’you ever just wanna pack up and move to canada?”
“not particularly, why?”

“We all need to be loved and I wouldn’t be a very good person or mother if I didn’t give you the same love I give Penny and Parker. I want you and your sibling to know that this is some place that you’re safe and wanted and loved. That I won’t hold things against you just because you aren’t biologically mine. None of that matters, what matters is that you both are here and you’re mine now,” she explained. It was hard to explain what she felt for her step-children but what she said was the truth and she hoped that she was putting those into words that made sense.
Brooklyn nods slowly as Genesis speaks, taking in the words and processing them. She expected a response like this, but didn't expect it to effect her so much. It was heart warming to hear how much she loved her children, non-biological included. It was a major difference from her birth mother. "Oh. I guess that's true." She didn't really know what to say, but didn't want to seem as if she was disregarding everything that was said.

Genesis couldn’t help the soft smile that graced her lips as she listened to the teen. “Just because I didn’t give birth to you doesn’t mean I don’t think of you and your sibling as my own or make me love you or care for you any less. To me it doesn’t matter if you’re my biological children or not, your my husband’s children and that makes you mine as well.”
The reply almost made her smile. Almost. "I still don't get it. How can you not think of us as different when we only got here a while ago and the others have been here forever?' She doesn't understand. It's all sorts of confusing, how her step-mother couldn't diffiniate her love between the four didn't make sense.

“Because the house would feel like it was missing something, I would feel like I was missing something. You and your siblings are all I could ever want, you four are my life,” she explained honestly. Genesis didn’t see the point in keeping secrets when it came to this and it wasn’t hard for her to find the truth.
“But we’re not even like, related.” It didn't make sense. She knew she shouldn't be pushing this on Genesis, but she was curious. The thought of someone besides her sibling loving her in a family was so foreign. It didn't really seemed to click in Brooklyns mind that something like that could even be possible. "It's different though, than your actualy kids."

Genesis was happy with anything the children gave her as far as conversation, all she wanted was for them to all feel comfortable. “No, it was a lot to take in at first but I wouldn’t want you anywhere else but here. It’s not weird, I think it would be weird if you weren’t here.”
She bit the inside of her cheek as she waited for an answer. The one she got wasn't really one she expected, to be honest. "What?" Brooke gave the woman a confused look. "Why would it be if we weren't here?" She was both a mixture of confused and surprised.

At the answer Genesis smiled before finally moving to sit back down across from the girl, glad that the girl know that it was something she was always worried about. “Of course,” she nodded, her attention completely on the girl now.
Her foot anxiously taps on the floor as the woman sits across from Brooke. She only makes eye contact for a few seconds before folding her hands infront of her on the table. "Is it, uh, weird to have us around? I thought it might be weird just to have some kids dumped on you."

“Yeah it would have. You know you can call me or text me or anything at any time right? No matter what it is I’ll always come get you, sweetheart,” she smiled as she started to put the clean dishes away. When her step-children had come to live with them it had been a lot to take in but she was trying to make it seamless and she just hoped that she was doing the right things for them as well as her own.”
“I do know that.” She says, small smile as she watched her step=mother move about the kitchen. Brooke appreciated everything the woman had done to make sure things didn't seem as awkward as they felt. She then frowns for a moment, biting her lip once more before speaking. "Can I ask you something?"

The blonde made herself busy with wiping down the counter, just for something to do as she looked at the girl and listened. She always tried to make the awkwardness seem less awkward by busying herself. “I saw one of them. I hope everyone’s okay. I’m just glad you’re home and not outside so you won’t get hurt.”
It’s not for a lack of trying that Genesis has made the whole process of living with them just a bit easier. It's been a hard transition, something Brooke hasn't really gotten over yet. The girl bit her lip and nodded "Yeah," she never knew how to take people caring about it. "It would've sucked a lot."

Genesis just wanted her step-children to think of this house as their home and she wanted them to know that they could depend on her and ask or talk about anything but part of her wondered if that was possible. No matter what though she was going to keep trying, for their sake and her own. “I think you’re right and I certainly hope not.”
Brooklyn nodded at the womans response. Although she hated the awkward silences that would come around the house, it was normally because she never really knew what to say to her step-family. "Uh," she clears her throat. She thought for a few moments before speaking. "Did you see the accidents? There was like..two or three I think."

“You don’t need to thank me that’s what I’m here for, to take care of all of you and your father. I’m here for you guys,” she smiled as she sat across from her. “No but I’m not really surprised considering the storm and power outage though they were out of a lot of things.”
The thought of someone other than her sibling being there for her was forgiegn, but she smiled anyways to try and seem polite. "Yeah..People must have already went to the store beforehand and got supplies. Don't think there'd be any shipment trucks out during this either."
