If there was anybody in this world that could get excited and actually get behind the idea of electric pancakes, that was Nora. Pyrrha, at the girl’s excitement and then bummed out face, just rolled her eyes and gave her a smile and a laugh “I don’t think that’s the best idea… Not all of us can absorb electricity like you, but maybe… Mhm, maybe it would, but for safety reasons, I think we should keep the recipe power-free, what do you think?” She joked.

Nora was one of those girls who, when she started speaking, there was no point in even opening your mouth because her strong, loud ranting would just trample over you like a stampede of bulls, cows and every other animal. Watching her move around the kitchen, she mentioned the cups and spoons measuring units, so Pyrrha instantly went to grab them out of the cupboards “Alright, here’s the thingies, do you wanna do the honors?” She offered them to her. “And since you brought him up, what’s… What’s the deal with Ren?” She asked. The redhead knew the broad terms, she could see Nora staring at Ren the same way she stared at Jaune, so she wanted to know. 

“I think this team is scared of a little dangerous fun,” Nora huffed in turn, though she clearly meant it as a joke. Didn’t mean she wouldn’t try it when no one else was around.. Instant pancakes sounded amazing.

“Oooh, I get to cook?” Nora was a little too excited for that. It probably wasn’t the brightest idea, but Nora wasn’t going to point that out. Taking a bowl, she started to measure the flour. “His deal?” She asked, looking over to Pyrrha, forgetting about the bag of flour for a second and spilling them entire thing into the bowl. “Whoops!” She called, now trying to shovel the flower back into the bag with a measuring cup. “We’ve just been living outside the kingdoms. So, like, extreme emotions can be bad, especially negative ones~” She sang the last part to emphasise the point. “We both have our ways of avoiding negative thoughts. Ren’s is just a bit more subtle.” There was.. a lot more to that. Ren’s parents.. Everything that happened. It wasn’t Nora place to tell. “It’s just hard out there, you know? Gotta survive somehow!” She, of course, didn’t exactly pick up Pyrrha meant Nora’s deal with him.

The more Nora talked the more this whole thing sounded like a crime, but, Ruby wasn’t about to argue with that order it meant getting out of here before anyone saw them!

“To the roof!” actually when she tried to put effort into it Ruby found it came naturally as her arm raised spoon in hand and the two darted off at top speed to the roof. Though to make sure they didn’t lose each other Ruby refrained form using her semblance she’d lose the red head in an instant. When they arrived the silver eyed girl just plopped down on the roof stretching out before looking again to the much more intense girl.

“So mission successful?”

Reaching the roof, Nora spun around a few times in glee before crashing on the ground with a laugh. This was fun! Schools were fun! People were fun! She liked this new life. Crossing her legs in a very ‘un-ladylike’ way, Nora placed the carton of pudding on her skirt before breaking two off and holding them out for Ruby to take.

“Mission successful,” Nora sang, ripping one off for herself before pointing a spoon at Ruby. “But you’re sworn to secrecy. Ren can never know.” She wouldn’t be surprised if he did know though. Nora couldn’t keep a secret from him. “Welcome to Professor Port’s secret stash. If he asks, we finger that Cardin guy.”

Jaune was fighting the urge to win his nickname puke boy once again. What had they just watched? And why? Not why had they watched it. More. Why did it exist? Why had someone taped that? Done that?

“Student film. Right.” He mumbled softly and nodded, standing up and hitting the eject button, “No, ah, either way, Ozpin will want to see this.” Jaune tried to smile at Nora. But it was lacking his usual enthusiasm.

The possibility that it was real sent a chill through his soul. Worse, when he considered the possibility that-well, something like that could still be happening.

His eyes went to the window, as if expecting to see a cloaked figure there.

Nora almost reached a hand out to clasp on his shoulder encouragingly though quickly thought better not to. On edge like that, it would probably just startle him. Shooting a quick glance to the window to see what he was looking at, she turned back to him with a forced smile. Growing up outside the kingdoms, she learnt that negative emotions were a death sentence. Maybe they were safe within Beacon’s walls, but that didn’t stop the nagging fear of watching someone freak out. She also didn’t like her friends worrying...

“Jaune, it’s fine,” Nora insisted, nudging his elbow gently with her own. “Come on, we’re warriors! If any creeps come at us I’ll give them a taste of Magnhild!” Unclipping her grenade launcher from her back, she held it at the ready for show, a wide grin on her face. Even if she was freaked out, she knew how to put on a show. “We could TOTALLY take down a cult!  We’ll kick their creepy asses! So relax! Come on, lets show Ozpin how totally serious and responsible ass-kickers we are!”

It’s the Little Things

The two of them walked to the far edge of the campus where a small pond was situated under large trees. Once they reached the edge of the water, Ren noticed a small group of ducks paddling up to them, quacking in chorus. He smiled and sat on a dry patch of dirt, then began fussing with a small bag that he had strapped to his side. He unwrapped several small vegetable rolls wrapped in seaweed and handed one to Nora.

“Here, feed them these. Much better for them than bread.”

Following Ren’s line of sight, Nora gasped loudly as the sight. DUCKS. Cute, sweet little ducks! Covering her mouth, Nora inwardly screamed quietly to herself. She wasn’t to rush over though they were likely to fly away if she did. She had to control herself for maximum duck friendliness!

Taking the offered vegetable rolls, Nora wasn’t sure whether to roll her eyes at the health information, or the fact that Ren came prepared. It was super cute either way. “Thank you, Ren~” Nora sang, creeping closer before breaking a roll apart and feeding the creatures. Hearing them quack excitedly at her, Nora squealed behind tightly closed lips, turning to look back at Ren, pointing at them excitedly. “How mad do you think Glynda would be if we stole them?”

Mercury laughed covering his mouth a bit and leaning over as he did his shoulders shaking with the laughter. They may have obviously different opinions on what ‘chaos’ was but the way she said things just struck Mercury as funny she was still pretty much ‘too happy’ as Em would put it but he still found himself laughing it was just entertaining.

“Here’s to a little unadulterated chaos.” he raised an invisible glass to clink with the red head as he tried to stifle his laughter.

Watching the boy double over in laughter didn’t deter Nora. Sure, she might not get what was so funny, but people acted to her antics in all sorts of extreme ways. It really took time for people to really get use to her. Laughing wasn’t a weird reaction.

Raising her hand, she ‘clinked’ her invisible glass against his before bringing ‘it’ to her lips and throwing her head back, mimicking downing a glass of whatever fake concoction she was imagining. Turning to the other she finally introduced herself; “Name’s Nora, stranger. You going to give me a name or do you want me to stick with ‘silver boy’?”

Ruby quickly went from excitement about sweets to suffering at realizing this may actually be some kind of crime…also Nora just ripped and air vent open. Ruby had been about to agree with her about sugar free ‘desserts’ when all hell at least form Ruby’s perspective broke loose.

Act casual quickly turned to sitting looking shell shocked wondering what in the world she was participating in…thankfully no one came by.

Making her way through, Nora ended up at the kitchen area. Holding her breath, she listened for any movement. Hearing nothing, Nora balled her fist, drawing it back as far as she could in the tight space before slamming her fist into the metal. It broke off in an instant, clattering on the floor before she popped out. Giggling mischievously,  Nora tippy-toed her way over to the faculty fridge. “Sorry professor Port,” she sang, grabbing a whole pack of six before digging through a draw for two spoons, popping the handles into her mouth to hold.

With that, she was crawling through the vent again, pushing the carton of puddings along. “Heads up,” Nora mumbled over the spoons once the reached the end, pushing herself out the hole and onto the floor once again. Getting up, she dusted herself off with her free hand before taking the spoons and offering one to Ruby. “You’re now my accomplice. We ride and die on this one together sister. NOW! To the roof!”

Nora’s over the top reaction made Pyrrha laugh. It was so… Nora, after all. The redhead watched her expectantly, and when she agreed, got up and looked out the window. With this rain, the boys should be coming back around soon… Or so she hoped. They were together, that’s all that mattered. 

“Alright then, let’s go cook up a storm- Well… No, don’t make them electric pancakes“ She joked with the ginger girl before walking over to the kitchen. She hadn’t been an experienced cook ever, she’d probably made pancakes four times in her life, but she’d seen Ren do them countless of times, so how hard could they be. “Alright, we need flour, eggs, baking powder, vanilla extract, milk“ She said, bringing ingredients out of the cabinets, cupboards and fridge, while she tried to remember the rest of them “Do you know if Ren has this written down somewhere?“

“You’re taking the fun out of this,” Nora accused, pointing at the taller teammate. Electric pancakes sounded AWESOME. All she’d need was a fork an electric outlet and she could store up some electricity and give them a little old SHOCK. “Do you think that would cook them faster? Like instant pancakes?” Pressing a finger to her chin in deep thought, the shot Pyrrha a sly smile, “I’m willing to try if you are~”

“Pretty sure Ren has them all stored right up here,” Nora answered, tapping a finger to her head. “Truly a man of mystery. He might, but if he has he’d been hiding them from me!” Then again, that was a possibility, to try and deter Nora from attempting them herself. “Little does he know I watch his ever action in the kitchen. But, like, in a non-creepy way. I just get excited for pancakes. You need two of the biggest cups of measurey thingies of flour, two eggs, and like.. a small cup of the sugar? But not the smallest like.. the second smallest, you know?”

Ruby was surprised how just mentioning pudding had gotten Nora into a tangent about pudding still….she did like chocolate pudding. Professor Goodwitch was kind of intimidating though she knew that in more ways than most students due of her acceptance into Beacon…but…pudding….CHOCOLATE pudding.

“Well that does sound good aaand I haven’t been on the roof yet okay Nora lets go if you know where they keep the good pudding. The stuff they keep putting on the table is sugar free and totally gross!” it was just a little break right Weiss wouldn’t be THAT mad if she got back to work after hanging out with Nora and again, pudding.

“Sugar free is an abomination to sweets! I will not let such an injustice slide!!” Walking down the halls towards the kitchen, Nora stopped under an air vent. “Okay, you wait here while I get the supplies. If anyone walks by, act casual. Got it?”

She didn’t bother to wait until Ruby answered, the girl already on her tippy-toes. Curse her short structure! Fingers sliding into the slits of the air vent, she ripped it open easily. Flimsy metal could never stand between her and her sweets!! Dropping the cover on the ground, Nora jumped up and pulled herself inside, a mischievous giggle escaping her. “I’ll be baaaack~” she sang, creeping along.

“Ozpin huh…” Mercury trailed off at the name recalling all the times that Cinder had spoken of the man. None too friendly and whoever Cinder answered to seemed to be where his leader was getting her information but the silver haired teen held his tongue. Mercury was a lot of things and a pain in the ass but, he wasn’t stupid far, far from it in fact he preferred to live further on the edge but, since he’d met the fiery woman they gambled with a weightier set of dice.

“Maybe…truth be told without some good chaos now and again life would be pretty boring truth be told I only get in trouble when I’m bored but, life is pretty boring.”

“I know, right!” Nora agreed, overly happy to hear that. There was a few exceptions, namely the RWBY sisters, but most people gave her a hard time when she made things a little more chaotic. But, really, it made life all that much more fun!!

“I mean, going to Vale is pretty exciting! Training to fight monsters and all that! Really gets the adrenaline pumping!” As long as it wasn’t focused on theory. Nora was a much more hands on learner. “But routine is boring. You have to switch it up every once in awhile and descend into pure CHAOS!”

“We didn’t pick the name.” that was really all Mercury had to say on the subject of their ‘team name’ it was awful. Still seeing what had thus far been a very animated girl attempt to stiffen up and look upset or disappointed was funny as hell and gave him the exact image of the kind of teammate she had. In a lot of ways that was worse than Cinder, she limited himself and Emerald out of necessity this guy seemed to be doing it from just his natural disposition.

“Yikes, your friend sounds like a real buzz kill….through the roof? Seriously? I’m sure the staff here was just thrilled about that….like that angry blonde vice-head lady I always seen walking around…she certainly has…” the first expression that came to his vulgar mind he decided to sensor they were supposed to ‘seem’ like decent school students right?

“-a chip on her shoulder about fun.”

“He’s fine,” Nora waved off, “gotta have one with their head screwed on to keep you from getting yourself killed, you know?” Okay, yeah, Nora had to agree a little. Still, Ren had a LOT of fun moments too. He’d taken full part in the food fight too after all! 

“It’s okay, you can call her a bitch,” Nora stage whispered. In truth, Nora adored Glynda, just as she did the rest of the professors. She had her favourites of course (Port was AWESOME!) but she’d been chewed out by Goodwitch a fair few times a this point. “But naaah, she took it pretty well! She just, like, waved her whip thing and it all repaired itself. I think Ozpin kind of saved our hides on that one though. He probably secretly loves a good food fight.”

Coming up behind Jaune, Nora peered over his shoulder to watch what he was doing, curious as always. “What’cha doing?” she half asked, half sang. He didn’t need to answer, the image flickering on the screen becoming clear. Growing up homeless, Nora never really got to see much television. In her time here she did get to introduce herself to horror movies, something she found she enjoyed immensely. This.. was different. It wasn’t like the cheesy murder scenes and obviously fake monsters or creepy ghost children. This was.. extremely realistic. 

Freezing up, Nora felt sick. “It’s.. probably fake. I’ve seen horror movies like that.” A lie, really. Nothing she watched made her feel so rotten and unnerved. That.. looked real. Swallowing the lump developing in her throat, she reached over and turned off the television. “We should.. still give this to Ozpin. I mean, it’s probably nothing!” Switching to a cheery tone in an instant, she tried to reassure Jaune. She might not believe it, but she could at least try to make him feel better. “Probably a low budget student film! But just in case.”

Jaune and Ren rarely took off ‘guy time’. It was usually Jaune who demanded it, saying he had spent too much of his life surrounded by his sisters and that now that he had a brother, he wanted time off with him, and Ren wasn’t at all bothered with the idea of leaving the noise and general sense of destruction Nora brought along for a short while, so while they went away to the woods to practice and have some time for themselves, it was the two redheads of team JNPR who were left alone. They usually took the time to.. Un-ironically do their hairs and talk about boys, but sometimes they planned some other things too. Tons of trips to the city to buy some clothes or even sparring matches to keep up with each other, practicing team attacks and strategies, the two girls did it all.

But today, it was raining outside, they really weren’t up for anything too extreme, and that’s when Pyrrha heard it. “Nora.. Was that your stomach?!” She said with a laugh, rolling from her back to her tummy on her bed. “I think it’s complaining because Ren isn’t making you pancakes… They won’t be the same, but wanna whip up a batch? It can be a nice surprise for the boys when they come back?” She suggested. They had all the ingredients, she knew pretty well how to work around the kitchen, and Nora could help her out or just keep her company, she had no problem in cooking alone. @breakhislcgs

Sitting at the window, Nora stared out at the rain miserably. As a general rule, Nora loved storms. She loved getting absolutely saturated and jumping into the biggest puddles and climbing to the highest point with Magnhild to get struck by lightning. But this was just rain. There was no distant thunder. No light flashing in the sky. Rain without lightning was just a disappointment. What’s worse, Nora was starving! And Ren wasn’t around to cook! Nora had never been talented in the kitchen.

Chin resting on the window sill, Nora tried not to whine, but she couldn’t stop her stomach from complaining LOUDLY. “Yeeeeees,” Nora answered miserably, head rocking back as he pouted. Hearing Pyrrha’s offer, Nora pipped up instantly, bouncing onto her feet as she spun around, wide smile slipping into place. “Yes, PLEASE! I can’t promise there’ll be any left!” At this rate, they’d have to cook a LOT. Humming, she stared at Pyrrha expectantly. “You’re the best, Pyrrha~”

Ruby laughed a little when Nora dubbed her choice ‘smart’ it was funny whether she meant it or not…if she meant it it might be funnier.

“Woah!” the grip on her arm was sudden but Ruby let Nora drag her out, it sounded like the other girl got bored easier than Ruby even. Ruby grinned though when Nora asked to do something with her, Yang was right after all Beacon was full of friends she just hadn’t met her first day.

“Sure Nora I am pretty bored you’re right so what did you want to do..I was just studying so that’s not very fun….I”m sure you have something more exciting in mind…truth be told my brain is turning to pudding. But, if i don’t study Weiss will get mad at me augh…this’ll be a good break!”

“Eww, studying is gross! You’re lucky I came and saved you from that hell then!” Nora was more than happy to help people escapes from horrible things like school work. Okay, sure, being accepted into Beacon was one of the best things to happen to her, but that didn’t mean she enjoyed the theory work that came with it! 

“Let Weiss be mad! Trust me, I have my own grumpy-butt, she’ll be fine. You need a break every once in awhile! Speaking of pudding, I know how to break into the kitchen! Don’t tell Glynda though. Don’t rat me out, Ruby! But I can get us the BEST pudding! Then we can sneak to the roof and just GORGE ourselves with chocolate pudding! No one has to know.”
