The term "theater" has become so inseparable from politics, casting the 2016 election with Shakespeare characters is simply the next logical step.

I read the NYT article about the election and Shakespeare -- I found this back at the beginning of the year, never forget how far we have come! Pretty funny and crazy. And now I feel like I understand all of these references and characters a lot more.

Okay, so, yes, this is Marisa posting this, but if you haven’t seen anything on this show, now you can see why I’m obsessed. I didn’t get to see Johnny Lee Miller as the monster (bc 1 ticket was enough for me), but there are plenty of really cool things that NTL does! They also do a TON of fun shakespeare renditions that they broadcast yearly (i.e. Benedict in Hamlet, which is coming to southside works Nov 16 and Nov 20), along with other great classics that have been transferred to Broadway (A View from the Bridge w/ Mark Strong, Hedda Gabler, the recent Streetcar w/ Gillian Anderson , No Mans Land with Sir Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart - AYE! Familiar faces - Amadeus, and As You Like It to name a few).

If you’ve never read Zadie Smith, I highly recommend you do so. Her characters are so clearly drawn, her humor wry and deadpan. She is an excellent source for enriching your cultural awareness. And how cool is this article?
