Don't be afraid
''Don't be afraid'' is perhaps the most important thing I took away from today's workshop masterclass by Emma Rice. It was great that she had a lot of audience participation in her workshop as it made us feel more involved. Emma came across very friendly and certainly knew her stuff about the field of acting and directing. 60 % of what she said I had heard before but had forgetting about it until she said it. A lot of things she said will definitely help me as an actor, being afraid on stage of making a fool of myself and in rehearsals has always been a big fear of mine but now I've realised it's perfectly okay to look silly because in theatre we are free to express ourselves and no one will judge me. Emma also talked about how important improvisation and playing is and there is no right or wrong thing to do in rehearsals until you get to the tech. I love that way of working and I think it's much better than a director having a set idea straight away of what they want the actor to do. I had a lot of fun watching the masterclass and it has inspired me to go and see more.
