Zen's marriage proposal came close to happening.
This is a theory about Zen's proposal that I came up with just yesterday, so I want to share it with y'll.
What I'm going to base it on is this scene:
On this chapter, Zen tells Shirayuki about what he had asked to Izana, that she comes to live in the castle. I want us to pay attention to what Zen says: "But this is so that, in the future I can announce publicly that you are someone I need."
I think that for Zen to be able to announce their relationship publicly, he first has to make the proposal to her. From this, I came up with the theory.
Zen said that her stay in the palace was to announce his public relationship. He was probably thinking or even decided, to make the proposal to Shirayuki during his stay there. But just a few weeks or days later (It's mentioned that she had recently come to the palace), Izana's idea to send Shirayuki and Ryuu to Lyrias came up.
This pretty much let's just say ruined what Zen was planning. This could also be one of the reasons why Zen was so shocked when shirayuki told him she had to leave the castle, aside from the fact that he wasn't going to see her, of course.
Well here ends my theory that Zen was probably going to propose to Shirayuki. But this only made me think of another theory.
Izana surely knew that Zen was going to propose to her but before that, he wanted Shirayuki to deepen her pharmacist career. Then Izana gives her a new mission, to spread the olin maris in the north So this way, she would be getting more allies. And she would have the right status to be by Zen's side. That's why he sent her to Lyrias.
Therefore, now Izana is going to reunite Shirayuki and Zen again at Wilant castle, because when she finishes what he sent to her, she would be ready (politically) to be Zen's wife.
That's why I think Zen's proposal will be when they can finally work together again like in the old days at Wistal Castle. Then there won't be anything to stop them, since Izana clearly supports their relationship. Let's just say that somehow he was preparing Shirayuki, so that she can be someone worthy of being by Zen's side and not disappoint people.
If you notice, everything is planned by Izana! He planned everything so perfectly!
