They are sitting at a table in the back of the cafe. A WOMAN is in the foreground, talking on the phone. They are surprised by what they hear. WOMAN: Ugh, I haven’t had sex in three DAYS. PANEL TWO: JAMES is in profile: Only three days? I’m on a three month dry spell. QUINN has a cheeky expression on her face: Why don’t you help her out? PANEL THREE: JAMES: Not enough facial hair. QUINN: Chivalry is dead.

AKA what I was supposed to share last week. I had a fab week up in White River Junction, taking the Graphic Memoir class with Melanie Gillman. I’m messing about with my style to do something that will a) take less time and b) be more cartoony. This one I call the bastard child of Herge, Alison Bechdal, and Bill Watterson. Transcript: Panel one: QUINN, BONNIE, and JAMES are sitting on the couch in James’s living room. Quinn looks excited, Bonnie is holding up a finished pussy hat, and James is drinking a beer. QUINN: What were your first protests? BONNIE: Millenium March! I was 10. Panel two: QUINN puts her hand behind the sofa, BONNIE puts down the pussy hat, and JAMES slinks to sitting on the floor. QUINN: I organized one for more vegetarian lunches in elementary school. BONNIE: James? JAMES: Never been. Panel three: QUINN is out of shot. BONNIE puts her hands to her chest, an exclamation point behind her head in shock. JAMES is still sitting on the ground, shrugging with his hands raised. BONNIE: Not even Pride? JAMES: I don’t do glitter. Panel four: The three are in view. QUINN has her arm behind BONNIE, who is laughing, and JAMES is wearing the pussy hat with an angry cloud over his head. His arms are folded across his chest. QUINN: Aw, tomorrow’s baby’s first march! BONNIE: HASHTAG! JAMES: I hate you both.

Beth here. I’m up at the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, VT. There’s no new comic this week, as I’m up to my ears in a memoir comic class. Shout out to my memoir folx - ART WINS. Your regularly scheduled program returns next Wednesday.
The ladies are getting ready to protest this on-going madness and are trying their hands at snappy slogans. James is somewhere off camera, probably getting drinks. He makes his triumphant return in next week’s strip. Transcript: Panel one: BONNIE and QUINN are kneeling on the floor in JAMES’S apartment. BONNIE has her hands in front of her, mid-clap as she gets an idea. They are both dressed comfortably, Bonnie in a flowered hoodie and Quinn in a sweatshirt with an eye on the chest. BONNIE: Our signs should say ‘Bull’s a fool!’ QUINN has her head tilted back, laughing: HAHA! Panel two: BONNIE sits back on her heels, her hands resting on her thighs. She looks a little sad. QUINN lounges comfortably. QUINN: Is that as mean as you get? BONNIE: I spent AGES thinking of that. Panel three: QUINN holds up a sign. She is smiling. QUINN: How’s this? The sign reads: BULL = SHIT.
Quinn and the Coffee Shop Girl, Part 3. SHE HAS A NAME. And more flirting game than Quinn. I was originally going to post a different strip, but got angry at it and decided to draw cute flirty ladies instead. Transcript: Panel 1: QUINN is in the coffee shop. Her hair is slicked back and her hands are in her bomber jacket pockets. She’s about to order from the CUTE COFFEE SHOP GIRL. The CUTE COFFEE SHOP GIRL leans forward and gestures a finger to QUINN. CUTE COFFEE SHOP GIRL: Ms Bold! Ceylon, right? QUINN: Yeah! Panel 2: The CUTE COFFEE SHOP GIRL hands QUINN a to-go cup of tea. Their hands touch. There are three hearts floating above the cup, and an exclamation point about QUINN’s head. QUINN is smiling and pleasantly surprised. CUTE COFFEE SHOP GIRL: It’s on the house.
Panel 3: CLOSE UP on QUINN’s hand, holding the to-go cup. A message has been written on the heat-sleeve. It says: Call me! 617-555-2839 <3 Mia Panel 4: No words. QUINN is smiling a goofy, closed mouth smile. We can see her from front on. There are seven hearts around her head. She is holding the to-go cup.
The ladies run into James at the local grocery store! Will hijinks ensue, or is James a party pooper?
Also ‘responsible adult’ trainings are actually super depressing.
