Project 3
Critical Reflection 1
After relying so heavily upon dilatational gridwork and transparency in the last project, I want to scale back a bit and challenge myself not to use transparency. This project has already changed slightly since the start; primarily in the actual design of my critter, but I am now quite satisfied with his appearance. At this point, it is difficult to see real world application behind this work, but I will be honing aesthetic skills nonetheless. In addition, with the completion of the writing behind this project, I feel more inspired, having really had to use my creativity.
Critical Reflection 2
At this stage in the work, I am facing way fewer problems than usual. I have employed the use of a flexible grid in my trading card, allowing for faster drafting. Beyond this, I have set up the elements very simplistically piece my piece rather than all at once. When I finished the card, I had already started drawing off its successful elements for cohesion in the poster. The poster is roughly half way at this point, and though it has changed layout and color scheme several times, I don't feel set back. All in all, taking a more incrementalized approach has greatly streamlined the process for me. The color choice and layout feel seems to work quite well, so now I just need to transfer this to the booklet.
Critical Reflection 3
Now that I am done, I can definitely recognize the merits of a branding project like this one. Establishing cohesion between three distinct works is a valuable skill. I really feel I have done this, especially through the subtle things like color, negative space and background texturing. I think another thing that was well worth learning was how to lay out dry, scientific information. The length of the body copy presented numerous challenges that I feel really enriched my overall design skills. Overall I am very satisfied with this project, and glad that the booklet prints have turned out right - yet another task that has been learned.
