Tunnel by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: When I was in Chicago I was walking around with my friend Wendy when we came upon a canopy tunnel type place just outside of Lincoln Park Zoo.
Avi by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: My friend Avi and I did a photo shoot a long time ago in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Avi is a dancer and in this image she is striking a dance pose.
Clouds Over New York City by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: I took this awhile ago when I woke up early one morning and wanted to go out exploring. I ended up getting on the Staten Island Ferry and then the Staten Island subway and started heading south. I eventually saw this view from the elevated train's windows and got off just as the sky was darkening with clouds. When I first tried to get this shot it started pouring and I had to take cover under a bridge. After waiting for a bit the rain stopped so I was able to set up my camera and quickly get this photo before it started raining again. For reference, when looking at the three clumps of tall buildings, the tall buildings on the left are Jersey City in New Jersey. The tall buildings in the center are Manhattan and the tall buildings on the right are Brooklyn.
Burning Man Large Sculptures Shot During Sunrise/Sunset 4/4 by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: This metal tree had inspirational sayings written around its base which people would come to read. As the sun set over the mountains, and a dust storm started to pick up, I lined the tree up with the sun to get this photo.
Burning Man Large Sculptures Shot During Sunrise/Sunset 3/4 by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: A huge robot holding a flower. The arm of the robot with the flower in it always seemed to be in a different position every time I rode by him on my bike. On one of the last days of Burning Man someone replaced the flower with a chainsaw.
Atomic Sunset Or Burning Man Large Sculptures Shot During Sunrise/Sunset 2/4 by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: Burning Man gets its name from the huge wooden stick figure man that is burned at the end of the festival every year. This photo was taken as the sun was setting behind the mountains but the light was so intense that it illuminate The Man from behind (please note that The Man is a different sculpture than the steel mesh woman that I posted a photo of yesterday). As the sun was setting the wind was starting to pick up causing dust to rise into the air. This image also reminds me a bit of a nuclear bomb going off but maybe that's just me.
Burning Man Large Sculptures Shot During Sunrise/Sunset 1/4 by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: So the desert festival Burning Man ended several weeks ago but I only just now started sorting through my images. This is an image of a huge woman made of steel mesh with the rising sun shining through her. This sculpture was especially impressive because if you stared at her long enough you realized her diaphragm and chest would slowly rise and fall as though she was breathing.
Avi by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: My friend Avi Asuleen and I did a photo shoot a long time ago in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Here is an image from that shoot.
Umbrellas by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: I was was walking in the streets of Jerusalem Israel not too long ago and I saw a really cool art project. About 100 open umbrellas were strung over the street making lily pads of shade. To get this photo I positioned myself in one of the circles of shade and pointed my camera straight up.
City On The Water by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: In the spring I was visiting my family in Chicago when I decided I wanted to go to the Indiana Dunes to try and get a photo of the sun setting behind Chicago. This was a shot I had seen others take in the past and I knew to get the sun behind Chicago I had to wait for a specific time of year. The problem was I couldn't find any info on what time of year that was. It was about an hour and 20 minute drive each way but it was an adventure and adventures are usually worth it. When I got to the dunes the sun was already beginning to set but I realized right away that it was the wrong time of year and the sun was setting way too far south to have it line up behind Chicago. I started taking photos anyways and with the dimming light and orange sky, Chicago was nicely silhouetted and I was happy with the photos I took. For those of you who have never been to Chicago, most of the Midwest is flat...like really really flat. The tallest hill we had as a kid growing up was called Mt. Trashmore which was a 4 story hill that used to be a garbage dump but that had been covered with dirt and then planted with grass. The land is flat as far as the eye can see which is why the tall buildings of Chicago appear to be coming out of the waters of Lake Michigan.
Concert On The Roof by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: A while ago my friends Jen and Rachel organized a concert on their Brooklyn rooftop through the organization Groupmuse. Groupmuse sends professional musicians to perform at parties and events for free in exchange for being tipped and allowing the musicians themselves to invite some of their own people. With the World Trade Center and the Empire State Building in the background it was a magical night. To get this shot I had to climb up on a slightly higher roof then the one I was on so that I was able to see the musicians, the audience and the skyline. Balancing my camera and tripod while climbing up the roof was tricky but worth the effort.
Stairs to Nowhere by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: I saw this line of people waiting to get in. The problem was that there was no where to get in to. A long time ago I found these two steps leading into a wall in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Dumbo. I'm glad I was finally able to use the steps in a photo shoot.
Tightrope Walking The Horizon by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: This was shot awhile ago when I was back in Chicago, I just haven't had the chance to post it till now. To get this shot I dragged a chair out to the rocks at Northwestern in Evanston. With the help of my friend Brittany, and the help of a tripod, I lined the chair up perfectly with the horizon. I then took a bunch of photos of me standing on the chair looking like I was focusing on balancing. When I put the photo through Photoshop I erased the chair resulting in the photo you see here.
Wall by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: I was walking around Chinatown when I saw the wall of a Chinese restaurant that had been damaged. To fix the wall someone had taken countless pieces of black, blue and grey tape to cover up the hole. The resulting patterns were strange and interesting.
Half Brick Half Man by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: I saw a interestingly built building the other day. The walls were built at angles with doors built in. If you stood in the right spot you couldn't see the doors but you could still see the brick. With no one behind the camera I spent a long time trying to line up half of my body and face perfectly. Eventually I got the photo you see here.
Light Speed by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: I rarely take the PATH train to New Jersey but I really should use it more often. There are a ton of photo opportunities just across the Hudson River in New Jersey and it only costs a metro (subway) card swipe to get there. Anyway, this is a photo of the stairs exiting the Newport PATH station in New Jersey. The steep climb of the escalators along with the neon glow of the lights above creates a cool effect.
Skyline by Brian Goldfarb Via Flickr: Hey everyone, so I haven't posted in a while and I'm sorry about that. Time just got away from me a bit. I hope to post on a more regular basis now though. I am posting a photo I took from New Jersey looking across the Hudson River at Manhattan. The clouds looked awesome as the light was fading and the weather grew cool.
