Back in 2014 I was really fortunate to be able to see Consuming Spirits in theaters and it really changed the way I saw animation as a filmmaking technique. The author of this work Chris Sullivan was able to convey so much comedy and sadness all wrapped inside of a smokey beautifully colored world. I guess the closest film equivalent to it could be something like Opening Night or Killing of A Chinese Bookie. There was and still is nothing like it in the world of animated features and without that experience of seeing it, I’m not sure if I would be making the work that I am today. It really was an incredible experience that can happen again with this new movie The Orbit of Minor Satellites! I want more work like this on the animated planet.

(1/2) I made a comic book! It's a dedication to Prince. His music plays in my head constantly and he's an artist whom I think of daily and incorporate into my life whenever possible. This comic also ties in to my new movie Big Surf. When I was making it, Prince was always on but when he passed away I couldn't really listen to anything else. Whenever I look at the movie now I still associate different parts to different albums of his that I was hyped on the most. Towards the end it was mostly the Batman soundtrack and one nite alone, but at the start Parade was the big one so Mountains is what I pair with the start of big surf.

89 years ago tonight the St. Francis Dam broke in San Francisquito Canyon. Recently, I completed a movie with Annapurna Kumar and Isabelle Aspin about the incident and some of the circumstances surrounding it. Here's a trailer for it! I'll be sure to post about screenings as they happen.

Haven’t posted in a while but earlier this year I had the opportunity to make a music video for Miya Folick. She’s great and you should check out her music if you have a chance at miyafolick.com.
Making this video was one of the last projects I worked on in my old house in SCV and it was during a time when there were wildfires happening almost weekly so this is kind of a document of that time with a few Prince references thrown in there too.
