Matt nodded to confirm her question. He felt it still was all his fault, he should’ve known the money belonged to Bernie and Nino. He should’ve gotten Shan involved sooner, should’ve done some digging of his own. But at the time, the driver thought he was doing the right thing. He just didn’t want Irene and Benicio to get hurt.

As he joined her on the bed he couldn’t help but feel responsible for Standard’s death. He felt it was his fault that now Benicio was without a father. It just wasn’t right. But, they deserve to know the truth.

“The people who he owed money to demanded more. And if he didn’t pay well…” He paused, he didn’t have to say it. He knew she would understand what he meant. “So… We decided to rob a random pawn shop. Turns out that money we stole belonged to a big gang.”

She sat there in silence as she took in what he was telling her. It was honestly a lot to absorb with everything that had happened in such a short amount of time. From her late husbands release, him being mugged, no- that probably wasn’t at all what happened now. Then the cops told her he got shot, the thing in the elevator, the call...then Matt showing back up and now they were here.

“Sounds like he really stepped in it, huh?”

That was putting it lightly. But Irene ran her free hand over her face, then sighed. When he said ‘we’, she had her doubts that it was entirely the truth.

“I’m sorry Standard dragged you into all this.”

SOS PLEASE!

Hey friends

I’ve had a lot of setbacks financially lately and now my husband and I are about $200 short for rent this month. Luckily, since this is a long weekend, I have until Tuesday til the bank takes the money for my account.

Actions always speak louder than words, this kiss only could mean one thing in Matt’s mind. Irene was okay with this and has forgiven him in a sense, again in his mind, and he was really happy with this. It’s what he wanted for so long, something he had been willing to die for. Something he almost had to put on hold, as Bernie had mentioned. Everything was getting back to how things where his only regret was Shan’s death. Sure, he could ask Emma for another favor but the driver wouldn’t feel right asking and besides, he didn’t like the idea of resurrection.

The driver kissed her back gently, his hand holding onto hers hoping to never let go. The kiss itself reminded him of their first kiss in the elevator. That scene was another thing he was apologizing for. It was something he never wanted her to see. To see what he would become in order to protect her and Benicio.

After a moment he pulled back a few inches and looked at her, trying to decide on the wording. He just felt that he owed her some explanation to that, he knew she’d understand now why he attacked that guy. He just had to tell her the truth, which he could now. Irene and her son were safe now and that’s all that ever mattered.

"That guy in the elevator… He was there to kill me.“

As he pulled back from the kiss, she slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes flickered up to meet his, and a smile crossed her lips. Well, up until he confessed his reasoning for that incident in the elevator. Irene could only assume it was because of- well whatever Standard had got him involved in. At first, she didn’t say anything, she just gave his hands a squeeze.

“Why? Was it because of Standard?”

All she knew was there was some money involved. Which- did not surprise her. Money was always the driving force that lead Standard straight into trouble. Irene thoughts of her late husband were- complicated at best, and right now it weighed heavy on her. With Matt’s hands still in hers- she lead him over to the edge of the bed and she sat down.

“Matt, what happened?”
