You know me, I’m a nice girl.
He was more than aware of that fact, which was one of the primary reasons he didn’t completely (or at all) understand how it was that the two of them had ended up becoming soulmates; Bridie was definitely getting the short end of the stick between the two of them, it was ridiculous, all too obvious to everyone who knew that the two of them were together, and aware of the grouch that was Jesse St. James. At least she wasn’t getting dragged down by his notoriety, clearly her kindness was more than making up for his lack of.“Depends on how we’re categorizing ‘wildest fantasies’. Could be absolutely nuts wild or… sexual… wild…?” That felt weird to say, despite the fact that the two of the were together and he didn’t really make any attempts to hide that he was fairly…passionate… about her, but Jesse was joking, at least that was clear. “Spiderman can fit into both types if we really wanted it to.”
That seemed to change when Bridie kissed him on their way to the dancefloor though, a blush creeping across his cheeks as he reciprocated, however briefly. He loved her, he made no qualms of showing that, but what they had now was something so new, both in that it was still relatively recent and it was unlike any relationship he had ever had before (if what he had with Rachel and that girl from Carmel High could be considered relationships, something about him being an overly dramatic teen who got into a number of really weird… adventures muddying the waters), that public displays of affection felt… too cloy. Not that he didn’t like it… or that he didn’t want a repeat of it… or something much more than just a peck… a full on makeout session maybe?
“Offended? Hmm…no? But you’re about to be once you get a taste of my sweet, sweet dance moves. I hope you know what you got yourself into, Coughlan,”he meant for his words to come off as a joke, and indeed, they were, but some of the typical Jesse competitiveness still seeped in, imbuing him with this need to prove that his mouth wasn’t running checks that his body couldn’t cash…or his hips, in this case, as he proceeded to shake them in her direction.
To make up for it, he made a point to be a little too comical in his movements, to allow her to slowly ease into the dance, to remember that he was there with her, not as the Jesse that the glee clubs knew, the one who wanted to one up them on every stage, but as the Jesse that just wanted to have a good time with his girlfriend… even though she’d come too close once or twice in driving her elbow to his chest, but hey, as long as she was having fun. What made that clear was the way that he only had eyes for her, where before he would be tempted to look out to the crowd, to see if they were noticing him and how great he was. “Bridie, you have way more reasons to dump me thanI do you… and your moves? Unbelievable, out of this world even. If you weren’t already my girlfriend, I’d ask you for your number right now.”
"Hey, they’re your fantasies. So I leave that interpretation up to you.” Another great thing about Jesse was that his wildest fantasies in regards to dancing, in an extremely public location, definitely didn’t have those leanings. Clearly the bar was on the floor if she was counting that as a plus, but. When it came to private dancing, well, maybe when they were actually alone and she was more sober she’d ask him about those. She recognized that she didn’t get drunk often, despite being surrounded by alcohol on a near constant basis. For her, the more she was exposed to free liquor, the easier it was to say no. She could always have a drink some other time, was the reasoning, when she was actually in the mood. Jesse didn’t yet know exactly what to expect from her when she was drinking, but certainly nothing that out there. Or even interesting, frankly. She was just her, but more. “You say that like there’s not a whole superhero category on PornHub. And you don’t even have to force Spider-Man to be sexy. Like, I mean, fast forward through all the versions where he’s a teenager and there you go.” She’s not sure if that made any sense, but maybe that was for the best.
It was so annoying to be at a joyous, literal celebration of love, and feel in some way anxious about showing her love for her Actual Soulmate just because people who she, also, cared about didn’t like him. Their feelings were...valid, to say the least. More valid than she would ever fully grasp or even accept, because to her, Jesse was...her person and if a single thing about him changed he wouldn’t be as perfect for her as he was. But obviously he had changed, in some ways, and she’d like to believe that her feelings for him and the way she talked about him proved that. Surely they could concede that a high school rivalry didn’t mean they knew him the way she did. She didn’t think much of the kiss, since one of alcohol’s side-effects was more open affection on her part, but she was happy that he didn’t pull away. If he was willing to, maybe, ignore the kinds of people they were more or less surrounded by right now, then said people could ignore them in return...right?
She wanted to nod solemnly in response, but she was too far gone for that. Instead, she just laughed and gripped his hand even tighter, using it to pull herself closer to him. Did she kind of actually fall on him more than she intended? Perhaps. “I won’t be offended that my boyfriend is a good dancer. Just gives me more to brag about.” Sometimes she wondered how he described her to people, if he just said she was a model and left it at that. It seemed like the kind of thing he would do and she didn’t even mind it. She was probably just a little too enthusiastic when she told people about him, particularly because they didn’t have any preconceived notions like all the people who met Jesse before she did. In a strange way, she would have loved to have met him in high school. She’s thought about it before, stopping him mid-lyric during a show just because she happened to be sitting in the front row. Maybe she read too many cheesy YA books back then, but she felt that obviously the power of love and destiny could teach a dumb boy about what his priorities should be. And she would have saved Rachel from that evil egg! Oh, well.
He was joking, mostly, maybe. Just like she had been joking. But she liked having an excuse to flatter him. It was...ironic, if she could even call it that? That Jesse chased praise from strangers and pretty much everyone and of course he liked when she complimented him, she could see it in his eyes and often his smile in response, but weirdly the sincerity of her compliments seemed to throw him off, somehow. “Hey,” she said, and paused her dangerous dancing in favor of grabbing him by the face. “I can’t think of a single reason to dump you. Okay? Also, I love you.” It seemed the only logical thing to do after that was lean up and kiss him, even though there was a vast difference between the dance floor and a table somewhere along the fringes. Without any smoothness or subtlety whatsoever, she broke the kiss with a grin and started a more restrained version of her previous dancing. “Let’s be honest. I bet decent dancing was at the top of your soulmate checklist. But graceless short girl who somehow got into modeling is nearly as good.”
