Previous experience includes co-authoring Amir's Shockwave in Warframe (backstories, concepts, illustrations, tennobet ampersand and F&F logo) and illustrating Operation Orias for DE and Paizo.

as somebody who's hoping to get a job in games art in the industry after i graduate university is there any advice you can offer for what sort of stuff is good in a portfolio? i'm still two years from graduating but i want to be on the ball and know what sort of prep i should need to do before i'm released out into the industry out of the confides of my uni... apologies if this is a strange question to get you're art is so amazingly gorgeous! so i thought it best to ask a pro!

Hello! Absolutely, thank you for asking me, it's an honor!

To be completely honest, there is not a magical solution to this especially considering the state of the industry. Funnily enough, I only started getting opportunities after caring less about finding a studio position and more when focusing on building a community and solid friendships who happened to be also in a similar field of mine.

Networking is really key to finding a job position. Personally I think I am not really good at it from a neurodivergent aspect since I overthink my interactions (especially with devs, as I respect the space since they tend to be exposed to a lot of things when interacting with gamers and fandom) and I am not good at small talk.

I think the best way to approach finding stability when pursuing an art career is to focus on building a portfolio by doing things that bring you joy (so whoever finds you will see what you're most comfortable working on and thus will be a better suit for). Be genuine in what you love and who you are and eventually your community and clients will find you. (Fandom is also a really big help because normally people are more interested in characters they're familiar with, though. I started being known for my Destiny art).

I am a full time freelance artist but most of my income is currently coming from Patreon and commissions for people who grant me the honor to portray their ideas or original characters when not working for contract work. Without their support it would have been impossible for me to get here.

Aside of that, it also depends on what particularly you're interested in specializing for. I think showing your process and behind the scenes is particularly important nowadays with the rise of AI :/

I've always said working on a romance game (or game with romance) has always been one of my career goals of all time (and you know me) so there have been times in which I've been a crying mess when thinking too hard about this project (ALSO WARFRAME!!!!). I am so thankful

Fables & Frontiers
