Welcome to Malectober!!!
You’ve probably heard of events like inktober, flufftober and whumptober - month-long prompt based creative events in the month of October. Malectober is an attempt at one such event - but only for us malec-loving sweet-toothed cold-hearted hoes. (I say cold-hearted because we’re love angst to such an extent that it’s concerning. Y’all are very lovely people, honestly).
Anyway, some base rules of the event -
There’s no signups, no official stuff - this is an all-you-can-create buffet. You can do this from start to finish, you can start somewhere in the middle, or even give up after two prompts.
There will be 31 prompts, one for each day of the event. All are simple, one word prompts, which may or may not be associated with Malec.
Speaking of Malec, this event is both for book!malec and show!malec. We don’t discriminate here 😇
You can create ANYTHING - write a fic, make headcanons, draw, make an edit, or a playlist, or a gifset, even a picrew if it fancies you 😘
NSFW content is allowed - as long as you tag everything accordingly and put it under a cut. Same goes for gore, whump, etc. Any and all types of content are allowed.

How perfect is it that Magnus decides to take Alexander's surname? to unite it with his own, making it something unique?
Now, I'm not up to date with the books, but from what I gathered Alexander is it for Magnus. Before Alec, Magnus never married, never even bothered to imagine a forever with someone. Alec, in his simplicity and contradictions, has managed to tear down and entirely destroy that wall that had been up for centuries. And while Magnus desperately wants to hope for their forever, desperately wants it, he knows how it is going to end. He knows Alexander is going to pass someday and what he decides to do?
He takes is surname.
I can very well imagine Magnus never removing their wedding ring, even after Alec's passing, which would be a declaration on itself. But the surname?
He is not only saying "oh, he was my love, we were married once". He is incorporating him in his identity. We know how important identity is for a warlock, they usually choose their names for themselves. And Magnus is choosing to making Alec part of it, part of himself.
In a couple of centuries, when the present will only be a chapter in the book of history, Magnus still be Magnus Lightwood-Bane. He would still be Magnus Bane, but he would still be declaring, centuries from now, that he loved a shadowhunter once. That there's a part of him that still will be loving that shadowhunter. That he will probably never stop.
I don't ever want another love.

Magnus: Okay. Let's go over it.
Rafael: Lunch at 1, snack at 3:30 and dinner when you return. Not eating anything Uncle Jace cooks, not leaving the house to hunt demons even if he says it's safe, and we can't play jumping on the furniture or walls either. We can't do dangerous spells that involve...
Max: I know! I know!
Rafael: But I'm saying it!
Magnus: Let him say one part, go ahead Blueberry.
Max: I can't do spells that involve: fire, breaking things even if they are small, summoning animals that do tsss, or psss, or ksss *putting hands in the shape of little claws*, levitating or summoning demons.
Rafael: We also can't listen to Uncle Jace if he has a new idea about a spell we've never done before.
Magnus: Very good! I am so proud of my little sweets, and what do we do if there is an emergency and daddy or Bapa can't come help?
Both: Call Aunty Catarina and Aunty Clary to save Uncle Jace.
