99 days until The Last King of Faerie
Down to double digits!!
Finally being in double digits after literal years of waiting is insane btw
the aroace read of ryland grace is so personal and haunting. "you don't even have a dog." was it not enough to love the world for the sake of living in it. was it not enough to live for the thrill of discovery. was it not enough to smile at your students. was it not enough to be afraid.
Realistically I think it would only take like. A handful of generations in the How to Train Your Dragon universe for the world to forget that dragons were real, for people to start to think that all those stories grandma and grandpa tell are just that: stories. That said, I do wonder if modern science eventually figures it out.
I wonder if present day archaeologists find things like the giant busts Ruff and Tuff made of themselves on Dragonâs Edge and go absolutely crazy trying to figure out what kinds of tools they were made with. I wonder if paleontologists have heated debates about what creature could have left this footprint or that claw mark. I wonder if biologists notice a sudden increase in the size of prey animal skeletons around the world from after a very specific time period. Any saddles or armor made of organic materials like dragon scales likely wouldnât survive the centuries, but I wonder if the skeletons of dragon riders are found and anthropologists are baffled by the wear on the joints of their legs and hips, almost like the bodies of warriors from horseback societies, but at angles that donât match the girth of the horse breeds found in that part of the world in that time period. In short, I just wonder if modern science in their universe is full of all these mysteries that are solved when eventually they figure out dragons were real.
Grace as an only child whose parents died early. Grace, who was raised by grandparents who died prior to PHM. Grace, whose grandma developed dementia. Grace, who had to watch the only person he ever considered a mom, not only forget him but also herself. Grace, who had to watch his grandpa quickly deteriorate after her death.
Grace who, years later, also developed dementia and not even Rocky could fix it this time. Rocky, who was forced to now idly sit by and watch Grace live out his biggest fear. Rocky, who knew he couldn't fix this no matter how hard he tried.
what if we had a qpr together and had a relationship not romantic but more than a friendship. were our lives intertwined together in such beautiful ways and we lived happily together
Not now, kitten, m- da- m- your parental figure is in the middle of a gender crisis
This video but its Snotlout and Tuffnut with Chicken and her babies
Time for a nice "Me"al
Rocky spent hours cooking up Grace to feed Grace - and this is the thanks he gets
nothing will ever make me laugh more than the thought of clary and jace sitting down in front of at least half a dozen silent brothers (and possibly clave members) and explaining the addition of the birth control rune with all the pragmatism of someone justifying adding a word to the dictionary
You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it
but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.
Reblog if your ask box is open.
Guys please ask me things, even if itâs stupid memes or daily check-ins or showing me what you had for dinner
Little Person by Matt Maltese except its Grace and Rocky
"And somewhere, maybe someday
Maybeâsomewhereâfarâaway
Iâll find aâsecond little person
Whoâwill look at me and say
'I know you, you're the one I've waited for
Letâs have some fun'"
I'll never get over vampire-esque man and his boyfriend who is perhaps too into being bitten
"C'mon it's just one little bite. It wont even hurt!"
"Wtf! No!"

I love how the entire aroace community latched onto Ryland Grace with no hesitation and have used his character as an outlet for frustrations regarding real-world politics surrounding our identities.
Dr. Ryland Grace was arguably the perfect backup candidate for his mission. Stratt got that right. He had no children, no life partner, no family, not even a dog. All he had was his students and that was enough for him, but that made him replaceable.
Right?
Not only were Graceâs wishes completely ignored, his life and his value as a person was undermined. Simply because he had no one but his students to care for his wellbeing, because he wouldnât have someone at home waiting for him to come back.
Aroace people deal with similar treatment simply because romance and sex are seen as essential to the human experience, completely disregarding any and all other types of connection. Oneâs inherent value as a person is not lost when they choose to live life without romantic or sexual relationships. Oneâs value is simply in existing.
Aroace people know this well, which is why so many have become so attached to Ryland as a character. Many of us see his way of life as the end goal for ourselves, so any one of us would have been seen as just as dispensable, by Stratt and by society as a whole.
Aroace people love Dr. Ryland Grace because his life mattered just as much as everyone elseâs, and so do ours.
