Live Show Review: Green Day
As soon as Green Day announced the run of club shows before their new album, Revolution Radio came out, no one could contain their excitement. The sheer idea of seeing a band that last sold out the TD Garden in Boston play the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street was very cool.
I travelled the 5 hours from my school on Long Island to Boston for the occasion and I am so glad I did. The cold New England weather and rain did not stop me or any of the others from lining up early to try and get as close to Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool as we could. There was a palpable excitement in the air as time for doors to open came closer and closer.
From the first note of the 2009’s “Know Your Enemy” until the end of the encore, the band and Billie Joe’s antics had the crowd whipped up into a massive frenzy. The band almost didn’t need a big stage with production because their personalities and songs filled the room. Every time Billie Joe Armstrong did his call and response with the crowd, everyone in the crowd immediately responded.
Green Day’s visible excitement over the response from the crowd and the perpetual wave of energy they were receiving was contagious. They banged through both new songs from the upcoming album “Revolution Radio” and old fan favorites. It was surreal to me to hear the band play my favorite songs like “Longview” in a small club and make it feel like it they were playing at TD Garden. Let me explain if you have never seen Green Day, with Billie Joe Armstrong at the helm, the band exudes energy and enthusiasm for every note and lyric. The band shows no signs of slowing down.
Make sure to catch Green Day at a show on the end of the club run if you can because you will not be disappointed. The setlist included fan favorites “Hitchin’ A Ride” “Jesus of Suburbia” and “2000 Light Years Away.” From start to finish and even Billie Joe Armstrong’s acoustic encore, the band slammed through the songs with high intensity and even higher enthusiasm.
