here is an idea: normalise the idea that adopting kids is a valid option even for parents who could conceive a child themselves, and not just an inferior backup option for parents who can’t

Why are amazons so threatening? Why, when women refuse to “act ladylike,” do men react with fear? Why does female strength somehow diminish male strength? To assert that women are really not so different from men disturbs our dualistic, bipolar way of viewing the world. If women can participate fully in an activity…that activity can no longer be used to grant men superior status. So when women demonstrate strength, some men respond nervously to the impending power shift. “Amazons” with “too much testosterone” threaten the concept of men as meatier, mightier, and as warranting special privilege. Thus men characterize women as “different.” Opponents of Title IX keep turning to women’s “difference” to justify cheating women out of sports opportunities. From “women can’t play football” to “women’s sports don’t raise money” to “women don’t really want to play sports,” men scramble to preserve sport as a bastion of male power. After USA Today ran a two day series of reports on the status of female college athletes, numerous angry male readers wrote to justify discrimination. The most telling letter came from an Alabama man who wrote, “Back off, you guys at USA Today…This equality kick long ago passed the absurdity redline mark. I suggest you get a recent issue of Playboy, Penthouse, or Hustler. Study it closely. If you can’t detect some significant differences between the sexes, get in out of the sun.” This is what it comes down to: women deserve fewer sports opportunities not because women and men have physical differences that matter in sports, but because women are rightfully objects of sexual pleasure for men.

Even if you come home late and I’m already asleep, just whisper in my ear one little thought you had today. Because I love the way you look at the world. And I’m so happy I get to be next to you and look at the world through your eyes.
