Possibly my favourite from this series? Wasn’t sure about Togekiss to start, as it is a very simple design, but I like where it ended up. Very inspired by other more birdlike interpretations I’ve seen.

Dawn has an older sister, named Eve, who moved out of Sinnoh a while before the events of Platinum started. Back then, their relationship was a little strained because Dawn was jealous of the fact that Eve was everything their parents wanted out of a daughter, making her feel inadequate in comparison, but since then they talked things out and developed a stronger bond of sisterhood.

Eve was something like a big sister figure to Barry as well when she still lived in Sinnoh, and she apparently looks quite a bit like Cynthia, but it might just be that she dyed her hair blonde. When Dawn started out as a trainer, she felt a bit lonely without her big sister’s constant encouragement, but also wanted to develop her own sense of identity outside of being the second-coolest of Johanna’s daughters.

Lucas and Cole speak fluent Kalosian. They are half-Kalosian, after all, and spent a good portion of their childhoods in Lumiose before settling in Sandgem with their mom and Professor Rowan.

Lucas doesn’t feel very attached to his time in Kalos and considers himself Sinnohan first and foremost. After all, he didn’t really have anyone other than his father and his siblings there (the latter of which went with him to Sinnoh anyway while the former can be reached at any time) and the friends he made in Sinnoh mean the world to him. Cole does have some pretty strong attachment to his Kalosian origins, though, and has nostalgic feelings about Lumiose that he still hasn’t fully processed, as he had many more connections there than either of his siblings.

Deep down, Cole does feel a bit weird about how his brother took to Sinnoh like a total natural, while he still feels like he’s split between two worlds.

During the early stages of his childhood, most of the birthday gifts Barry received were from Dawn's family. When Lucas and Cole settled permanently into the region and became his friends, he was quick to get grouped into their family as well, with both twins (and sometimes their sister) doing their best to make his birthdays special.

That doesn't always happen with his actual family, and due to many factors he doesn't actually want to ask anything from his parents. That doesn't bother him very much- he does have two other families fussing over him every birthday, after all- but the first time Wake put together a birthday celebration for him, he actually cried.

If Gardenia knew one thing about Barry it was his tendency to search out rare pokemon around Sinnoh. And as of recently he had been stopping by her place for tips on where exactly he could go looking next. This time it was different. She caught wind that it was his special day.

The first gift she gave him was rather simple. A decorative card embellished with pictures of grass types such as cherrim and roserade. Not rare but it was her signature. Inside a generous amount of poke dollars with a birthday message

"It should help fund your research on those elusive pokemon species," she explained. Then raised a finger to say she had one more item.

"Which by the way I may have taken the liberated to catch one for you myself," she added reaching into her satchel and putting a pokeball in his hand. Resting within was a plant cloak burmy. It seemed to be that of the female species, too.

"Fortunately I didn't need to travel too deep in Eterna Forest nor had an encounter with angry combee," she remarked with a half sighed grin.

"Happy birthday, Barry"

Barry had become an increasingly common presence around the Eterna Gym, always loitering around to explore the secrets of the nearby forest. He quickly noticed that there was a gift waiting for him, but seemed surprised that Gardenia knew when his birthday was, as he was pretty sure he never told her.

Then again, Dawn probably did.

“Really? For me?” For just a moment, his tone was that of actual surprise, but then he broke into a wide, sly grin, a classic sign that he was up to no good. “Wow, I didn't even have to fine anyone this time! Nice, just the way I like it.”

As he accepted the gifts and looked at the surprisingly wide variety of items at his disposal, one specific thing caught his attention. “And you got my favorite gift too!”

Was it the decorative card? The pictures? The rare Pokéball?!

No, it was the money.

“Nice and practical.” With a mischievous chuckle, he quickly stuffed it into his pockets and turned his attention to the Pokéball, which held a Burmy, one of the rare Pokémon he studied as part of his research. “And I'll take good care of Burmy as well! Good job not getting chased by the swarm this time.”

“Thanks for remembering me.” As he casually wrapped one arm around Gardenia's shoulder in an approximation of a hug, he had a much more genuine smile on his face, without his usual mischief.
