New Labour TikTok interview dropped online everyone go read and point and laugh at Charlie TikTok user nulabyaois comments https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/aug/10/i-became-obsessed-new-labour-psychodrama-grips-tiktok-teenagers
Nostalgic social media videos detailing Blair-Brown rivalry elicit cult following among young political fans
Okay, but seriously, on a super random segue, what is it with New Labour and bananas? Like there’s this:
But Alastair Campbell also talks about them all the time, Tony Blair said he used to eat them before PMQs and Gordon Brown was reportedly on a diet of eating five of them a day later in his career. There’s a passage in the diaries where they apparently did a whole round of Northern Ireland talks on a combination of bacon sandwiches and bananas.
Is this some kind of inside joke? A weird coincidence? A sort of shared habit caused by excessive time in each other’s company? It just feels kind of random
I have no idea what the banana obsession is about but I feel the need to correct the record
It wasn't 5 bananas, it was 9! which is so much worse!
The Prime Minister has ditched his favourite snack - KitKat chocolate bars - and replaced them with the high energy fruit.

We believe the government should change legislation to make it easier for trans people of all ages to change their legal gender without an o
UK people: a transphobic petition to repeal the Gender Recognition Act currently has over 10,000 signatures; this is the point at which the government is legally obligated to respond. Please sign and share this one as widely as you can to show the government that there's more support for trans people than the transphobes want them to believe.
Please remember to confirm your signature! This is important as your signature won't be counted until you verify it through the email you'll receive.

Slightly odd question, but do you have a gif of Ed saying Tony Blair thought he was a Marxist? I seem to remember him saying that and I thought if anyone would have it you would lol. Thanks!
Nothing is coming to mind, but I’m publishing to see if anyone else has what you’re looking for
it’s in ed miliband and alastair campbell’s interview for GQ,
where ed miliband says that a bunch of them went away on holiday and came up with a bunch of ideas and then (in miliband’s words) “tony dismissed me as a marxist”
Thanks!
I did make some gifs from that interview, but not of that moment
Thank you both so much!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KING!!!
‘Please,’ Rees-Mogg says. 'Have a sandwich.’
You hesitate. 'I’m not hungry.’
'Please have a sandwich,’ Rees-Mogg says. It isn’t mere politeness; there’s something desperate in his voice. 'I cannot eat all these sandwiches by myself.’
The room is full of people. 'I’m sure there’s someone else who can—’
'Have a sandwich,’ Rees-Mogg says. He slips off his chair, gets onto his knees in front of you. You take a step back in alarm. 'I’ve asked. There’s nobody else.’
'All right,’ you say, unsettled. 'Thank you.’ You reach for a sandwich.
He stops you with a hand on your arm.
'I’m delighted you’d like a sandwich,’ he says. His eyes bore into yours. 'You are entitled to a sandwich if you can prove that your family has been resident in the UK for the last ten generations.’
You jerk your arm out of his grasp. 'I can’t do that.’
Rees-Mogg starts to cry. He slumps back into the chair and begins to eat the sandwiches. There are so many sandwiches, and he eats all of them, crying.
'Nobody can help me,’ he whispers through a mouthful of ham.
Clearly Kemi Badenoch and the other tories were conspiring against JRM and his sandwiches from the start.
Or maybe she couldn't prove her family were residents in the UK for the past 10 generations and the sting of the sandwich rejection put her off in the first place...
to all my USA friends, i love you. please stay safe
(Many many more important things are happening in the news today BUT I’m laid in bed and have suddenly had the thought…)
Did anyone ever do a follow up on the Child Trust Fund accounts set up by New Labour for children born between 2002-2010?
It’d be fascinating to see what young people spent their £500 (+ in some cases, IIRC low income and disabled families could get more) pocket money from Gordon Brown on…
From today, the first 18-year-olds will be able to access Child Trust Funds (CTFs) set up over a decade ago by Tony Blair’s Labour governmen
Speaking from experience, most of the people I know put theirs towards a first car/car insurance, but idk how common that is/if anyone actually did any research into it. The younger ones still haven't got theirs yet so they might be waiting for that
MILIFANDOM WE ARE SO BACK
You know what, the UK might be pretty shit atm, but you've gotta admit that switching straight from the fireworks to Rick Astley singing Never Gonna Give You Up, then doing a (pretty gay) duet of You Spin Me Right Round is legendary and absolutely the best New Year's celebration this year so far!
Happy New Year's, everyone!
