Peniophora laeta always seems to grow on hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) and is fairly distinctive due to its peg-like projections from the surface and habit of causing the bark to peel back.

Greatest collection of medieval oak trees in Europe was found, growing in Winston Churchill’s old garden at Blenheim Palace. At least 60 oaks have been mapped in a survey of the grounds in Oxfordshire, with four of them measuring nine metres in diameter.
