more bullet points!!
so brittany is going to be canon divergent in a lot of ways, more than likely. it is the only way i can make her make sense. glee was so off the wall with her characterization, it's up to me to make sense of her, i hope i'm up to the challenge.
i don't know where brittany is originally from yet. that's tbd. lmao.
brittany has always known that she's bisexual. she's never really given it a second thought.
she grew up with very open parents who adopted her at birth. they raised her in a very unique way in that they never told her who she was, she simply figured it all out on her own. some of that was good, but some of that was probably not to her benefit, as they didn't care about her grades, because in their mind, grades didn't matter (they do, i don't know why glee tried to act like they don't).
she was very popular all throughout school, there was never a time where people didn't fall at her feet. she wasn't as popular as her other friends on the cheer squad, but she was up there. she was wanted by boys and girls alike, and they wanted to be her, too. she couldn't really imagine why, she felt so different, and it was uncomfortable.
she never really did great in school, having trouble focusing and preferring to write in glitter gel pen or marker, or sometimes, to her teacher's frustration, crayon. she didn't get what was wrong with that. who doesn't love a little color in their life? everyone around her thought it was easier to write brittany off as cute, and later when she got older, hot, but ultimately stupid - an ugly word that brittany has always hated. it's bullying, and she won't stand for it, you guys.
she has a strong sense of justice, of what's right and what's wrong.
she wasn't great at school, but the weirdest thing happened. she had low grades in most subjects, but in math, she soared. she is really great with numbers, but she finds a lot of other things...confusing. like, how do cell phone towers work? but that's for another time.
she liked math, but her real passion was always dance, and she decided to lead with that passion and apply to school at NYADA, nailing her audition and being offered a full scholarship.
the year she was held back, her guidance counselor suggested to her parents that they get brittany evaluated by doctors. at first, they were offended. they didn't think anything was wrong with their brittany. she was different, and she saw the world differently, but so did they, and what was wrong with that? it wasn't until brittany expressed her discomfort with being so different and not having a reason why that they agreed to have her evaluated.
in the end, brittany was diagnosed with adhd and autism. because both of these are so easily overlooked in little girls, combined with her popularity throughout school and ability to mask, learning to not "look autistic" without even knowing that was what she was doing. it felt good to finally have a reason to go with why she felt so different from her friends, and she felt she could finally embrace her different.
brittany is still close with her parents and doesn't hold animosity toward them for not seeing this sooner. she feels like they did the best they could.
to supplement her income, brittany works as a sugar baby and basically just lets old men spoil her.
