“I know you’re hovering back there,” Damian muttered, not bothering to lift the arm draped over his face. He lay sprawled across the sofa, a book resting open on his chest, its words long forgotten. Maybe Bruce thought he was asleep, but Damian had never felt less at peace. Restless didn’t even begin to cover it. Gotham was quiet - too quiet. The kind of stillness that only harboured the sense that something awful was shifting beneath the surface, just out of sight. He would’ve been out patrolling by now if Barbara hadn’t rather forcefully insisted he take the night off. This isn't healthy, she’d said. You need to clear your head for a few hours. Easier said than done.
Damian shifted slightly, the leather of the couch creaking beneath him, but didn’t move the arm from his face. Rest was a luxury he’d never learned to trust, and wasn't sure that he was built for. “Alright, enough lurking.” He shifted again, just enough to peek through a squinted eye, making sure Bruce was still there. “What is it? I’m not really into guessing games, you know.” Not entirely true, but when Damian was tired, he was more irritable than usual - which was saying something - and he’d much rather just get to the point already.
Bruce had always wanted to be a better dad to all of his children but he’d missed so much in Damian’s life it felt as though he could never make up. He was proud of everyone he’d fostered and knew that he was doing the best he could with what limited knowledge he had when it came to being a father. “It’s not hovering, I’m merely checking in on you to ensure that you are taking your breaks like everyone else” he mused softly moving to fully open the door and walk into the room.
He had merely wished to check on the boy and see if he was well. There were no hidden intentions but he knew how easily the other could tell he was around. “Sometimes I think I completely understand the comparison some make to you and an angry Chihuahua” he muttered under his breath before tilting his head “There is no guessing game, Damian, I was just checking in on you, I had a break from some of the planning and wished to see what you were up to. amidst all the C H A O S ; there are slivers of peace for those whom are willing to cherish them. thus was one of those moments, a rare and fleeting thing that today charles decided to gently grasp with his hands. joining the excursion for the first time in years, the young class of mutants varied from visible mutations to those invisible to the naked eye, are still judged and ostracised the same way. it's humankind to be scared of difference but it doesn't mean it doesn't get to charles, he always has to grain his teeth together when flooded by H A T E... it DISGUSTED him to his core, especially against the innocent such as his young students. never did it show on his face, he blocked those thoughts from the two little telepaths in the class not wanting their outing to be ruined by CRUEL people.
leaving the students in the more then capable hands of their teachers, he veered off towards the museum's cafe to fetch himself a much needed cup of tea. thus was where the sliver of peace came, his mind hovering over his students' minds whilst they interacted with interactive activities the museum is holding for the day - hence why they came on this day. charles seated in his wheelchair at a table for two whilst his pot of tea brews to his liking, blocking negative thoughts and ready at any minute to freeze all those around his students and staff to get them out safely if need be but he HOPED for the best for his students to have a lovely outing.

Ava couldn’t help but lurk, by him seemed interesting enough that much was certain but he was lost in thought, she’d quickly learned the faces of everyone associated with The Guardians to ensure that she’d never be caught unaware again. She’d happened upon him by complete accident. She'd wanted to get something sweet for Bob after all the man had deserved a little something special and she rarely put herself on the line without reason. She’d thought about phasing through things to make her grand escape but if her intel was correct this was Professor X, the one who held the power of the mind, he’d have been able to hear her very thoughts if he was actively searching but he seemed rather lost in thought. “Is the tea good?” she mused after all she’d just come from the gift shop and there was no crossing by him without him taking notice of her lingering stare. @vndcvd
Ava had to admit she was grateful for her newfound family, Yelena had been so kind to her back home that when they ended up in here with everything falling apart she didn’t wish to lose that friendship. She’d chosen a different path because, at the heart of it, she’d never been one of the good guys, she felt more at home with other so-called villains like herself, she’d seen what it was like to trust in the government and she never wanted to do so again. “I may have stopped and grabbed a couple items to restock our fridge” she mused as she entered the apartment that she shared with her good friend. “I ran into Bob today…he seems well, how was your day?” @ofmultiverses

" you here to take me in ? " bucky was all too familiar with this song and dance by now, with the government approved guardians chasing down and locking up those who had refused to sign a piece of paper, those who'd resisted, but he also happened to be good at running. he and stark had never been friends, and there may have been far too much history for that to ever be the case now, but he didn’t want the billionare as an enemy, either. “ cause i gotta say, i’m beat. would rather avoid the fight, if we can. but i’m not coming with you. ”
Tony looked at the other, sure his name had come across his desk more times than not but in truth he didn’t feel like playing by the rules at the moment. “I’m in a suit but the suit Barnes, take a beat” he mused, looking around after all people didn’t like being backed into a corner, and the last time they’d come face to face it’d ended in a fight of grand proportion. “Do you like tacos? You scream like a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant guy, so how about this we go grab a bite with each I don’t arrest you, and you don’t break my pretty face we try being social and hashing out some long overdue shit.”

" what are you exactly doing here, tony? " sue adjusted her own glasses, instead of her usual fantastic four blue uniform, she wore a lab coat, fitting for the baster building research facility. " reed isn't around... " wary of their different stances on registration and the risks of having him in her own place, storm approached stark with caution, blue eyes observing his figure. " did they send you to try and convince us? you're not exactly known to be the persuasive type... "
Tony smiled softly, this world had gone to shit quickly and fast but in the end, it seemed as though those who understood came together to try and find a path forward but it was difficult to keep the ball up in the air when your friendships stayed dived. “Why must you always assume I’m up to something Sue, maybe it was you I wanted to see.’ he mused looking around the place after all it was interesting to be in the Baxter building surrounded by something that felt so familiar. “Why is everyone greeting me like that lately? It seems you join a faction and that becomes your entire identity” he mused.

she was used to being around people that could do different things. hell, her husband was from another planet and could fly. if she could handle that, she could handle pretty much anything. "so do you have to oil up the wings for them to work or are those some of those super fancy wings i've been hearing about?" lois asked with genuine curiosity as she offered the man a cup of coffee. "just wonderin because they look pretty fancy from what i've seen."
Sam found himself pushed into the limelight more than he’d normally liked but at the same time he’d known what it meant to be Captain America and he was dead set on it being his way and not Steve’s. “It's a whole maintenance system actually, we got them back in the army and only a few of us knew how to play with them. Too Expensive I believe they said.” he mused taking the offered cup from the other. “They are very fancy, it took some time to get control of them and figure out how to fly them.”

a disturbing static cut through her mind. " this place is messed up... " green eyes darted towards sam, the usual black and golden suit wrapped around jean's body, pointing to any scrappers that the guardians were there for a mission. " no wonder the scientists went missing " jean wielded her telepathy to seek out any of those across the fractured reality, fingers reaching for the fabric of reality itself. " finding them would be a bit easier if you let me blast through this, cap " although she seemed in full control, most people feared for jean, or rather, the phoenix. " will the scrappers be a problem? "
Sam had taken on his more covert op suit but then again he was curious and he didn’t want to let Jean get hurt, she’d been on the opposing side but he’d helped her a while back and he couldn’t let her venture here alone. “It’s what happens when worlds collide, everyone and everything is dying for space so it just merges” he mused his eyes sweeping the grounds for anything suspicious. “By blasting them I'm assuming you are talking about taking control of their minds?” He questioned, he was never one for mind control but he also wanted to minimize any collateral damage. “They shouldn’t be around at this time, but the quicker we are in the better.”
Ava had found happiness within the thunderbolts, but at the end of the day, when everything had quickly gone to shit once they’d been forced into the whole guidelines type thing, she’d choose a fraction quite separate from her friends but that didn’t mean she didn’t visit them all. After all, she understood why Walker had chosen the whole forgiveness thing; it was what Val had promised him all those months ago. She smiled softly when she ran into Bob. They'd made plans to grab some food, and it seemed like the perfect day for their outing. She'd already ordered his favorite, so he didn’t have to deal with the anxiety of others. “Hello Bob, I'm glad we could meet up. I’ve been missing you. How are you doing?” @fractured--spirits

clark landed softly in the alleyway in the deepest part of new gotham, pulling the beanie down a bit further before heading out towards the meeting place. he'd been in orbit the past couple hours to throw off any potential trackers or watchful eyes. clark had honestly thought the accords would be a good thing, maybe he had too much faith in humanity, but he quickly learned that bruce had been right. when isn't he right though... the first time he had been told to stand down when people were in danger clark knew he'd made a mistake.
it had taken him some time, clark was nowhere near as good as bruce was at stealth and espionage, but clark had reached out to his friend for advice and to offer his in return. their first meeting had gone well in clark's opinion, no one ever knew what bruce was thinking but clark was willing to do whatever was asked of him to make this right. all he wanted to do was help people, both as superman and as clark kent, and with bruce's help he hoped to get back to that.
he ducked into the abandoned building and made his way to the basement, using his x-ray vision to find the hidden door in the dark room. "hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." clark apologised to his friend who was currently cloaked in the shadows of the room.
Bruce had long since always ensured that whatever came his way, he had a plan for it, these accords were something he’d seen coming with each new person they saved. Being one of the few of the Justice League without powers, he’d seen the writing on the wall of how they got looks near the end, especially Clark and Diana. The world was changing and they were being seen as the monsters they tried hard to protect the world from. The others hadn’t seen what this paper truly meant in terms of signing off their identities. To alert the world to who hid behind the mask wasn’t something he could agree with.
So he began his plans of starting something underground, something that allowed him to keep his secret away from everyone as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Clark had come to him not too long ago looking for his help, part of him wanted to be petty and tell the other he’d reaped what he sowed, but he saw this opportunity he couldn’t turn down a person on the inside who could tell him the enemy's movements.
“You always keep me waiting for a man who can fly around the world in 80 seconds. How is it that you can never appear on time?” he mused, moving out of the shadows, after all, it wouldn’t do good for either of their sides to see them conveyancing. “Have you got news for me?”

" do you ever get the feeling that you're not where you're meant to be ? " her words were quiet but held significance behind them. for so long, lorna had spent her life trying to figure out where she belonged, who she was. it seemed as though there was some cruel fate out there laughing at her because they had decided to leave the green haired woman with missing memories. " but the awful truth is that you don't know where you are meant to be but it's that gnawing feeling inside of you, reminding you of it. am i making sense or is this all in my head ? "
Ava looked up at the other as she spoke, It was strange to think of how broken the world had become and how quickly sides had been drawn in the sand. “I often find myself lost or wandering around lately, but it’s always been hard to return to who I was.” she mused, honestly looking at her for a second, she’d thought she’d found a family and yet it all seemed to fall apart in ways she couldn’t have foreseen. “Sometimes in this world, there are things that make sense and other things that other people to are the truth. Sometimes finding one's self among the bullshit takes time.”

cleo had her reservations about bruce wayne and his family. how could she not when they were part of the reason she was in jail in the first place. not that she could blame them entirely, it wasn't like gotham had been her home for very long when her sticky fingers got the best of her and put her right in the sights of the big bat. when sebastian barreled out of the alley that she had been cooped up in and ran almost smack into the man's leg as he passed, cleo was up faster than she thought she could be. "he's friendly," she blurted out as her little companion climbed his way up to safely perch on her shoulder. cleo narrowed her eyes slightly as she surveyed the man. "as long as you're not here to cause trouble for me. he's very protective."
Bruce had always been the type to try and understand the villains of Gotham. Not everyone hurt people out of the sheer pleasure of it. It was easy to ensure that he watched after the ones who deserved a second chance at life. Cleo had been one of those people he’d kept on his radar, given how harsh her life had been and how she’d only attempted to steal due to hunger and desperation.
“So I see, does he have a name?” he asked, not at all disturbed by the fact that the girl and her pet seemed to almost come barreling into him. I don’t have any use in causing trouble. I was merely on my way home when you ran into me…Is there something you are running from?” he asked, looking at her.

perched on a building rooftop, dark eyes observed those violent streets, aware of what it was to come and the inevitability of it all. " what's the plan, bat? " death taunted bruce, as it often did, eager for the day it would take him as she once did to his parents. " we could do some damage for old time sakes... you used to be more fun " fingers ran trough a strand of her own black hair, fitting perfectly the dark uniform she had taken on the last few years, a modern update to the usual hood of millennia. " it's not like you can save them. "
Batman had still taken to the streets at night after all the world wasn’t as great as it had been; if anything, this new discarded created a vacuum of crime that they tried to hide. They attempted to push it on the resistance and state it was just them causing the chaos, but that wasn’t the truth. “You think you can whisper in my ear and get me to do what you wish?” he questioned after all he was perched on the side of the roof looking down at the scene unfold he never allows someone to suffer it’s just how he was built as he turned to look at her.“You really should stop underestimating me, not every path leads to you” he mused before jumping into action to help take down the assailant.
