Just a song about heartbroken guy after a right? Wrong. Heartless talks about the coldness after a breakup, how a breakup makes you do regrettable things and turns you into a person you don’t even recognise anymore.

The song was written by Kanye West and originally also sang by Kanye west. Kanye may have written the incredibly touching words, but it was actually The Fray who brought the song to life, with the steady guitar by Joe King and pure unautotuned voice of Isaac Slade the song becomes real and to top it all off they literally give the song a heartbeat, Ben Wysocki’s drumming is almost unrecognisable as drumming, the longer you listen the more it the more it fades into the song becoming its own living being. Isaac Slade sucking in break while singing gives the song an effect of passion and reality. It’s as if he is singing it in the moment of being heartbroken, when the wounds are still fresh.

Goodbye Dear Friend

Released in 2010 in the album The Black Dirt Session and to the genre indie rock, Goodbye Dear Friend was written by John Joseph Mccauley iii, who is the bands singer and song writer.

When asked why he wrote the song McCauley answered “This kid Andy that I knew passed away in a house fire, which really hit close to home. I was in a house fire when I was a kid, and to see someone go like that was pretty disheartening. I wrote that song after the funeral to celebrate his life. It was a really moving experience. The last time I saw him was when he passed out from drinking too much and I carried him to bed. And I never saw him again.”

The song gained success proceeding its use in an episode of the hit series Sons of Anarchy, as fans connected their emotions from the loss of a main character in the show with the song from played at his departure.

Goodbye Dear friend’s lyrics are incredibly heart wrecking with the reality of losing a loved one. The simple piano music carries John McCauley’s voice with swiftness, not daring to take over. His raspy hoarse voice matched with the aching lyrics makes seems to bring tears to the toughest of us.

The song was originally written by Daron Malakian, and later edit by the help of Serj Tankian. Malakian later stated he didn’t entend for it to me a System Of A Down song “"I write a lot of songs and some of 'em I never thought worked for System so I didn't take 'em to System, and that's one that I wasn't going to take into the band, [...] I kind of [regretted] it." It was bassist Shavo Odadjian that said they "Yeah, we had to kind of get it out of him. He brought it and we loved it so much that he was like, 'I really don't want it on the record,' but ... it's something that needs to be heard." And thankfully so, because their album Hypnotize wouldn’t be the same without it.

Possibly Blink-182’s most popular song to date, I miss you is a song about depression and the desire to live in an alternative world, the main focus of the song is the loss of a person that once shared the same longing of escape.

I miss you is the third song in their album Blink-182, in 2003. It was also released prior to the co-lead vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge’s dismissal from the band, in 2015.
