for a second he doesn’t know whether she’s crying or laughing but he figures it doesn’t even matter — it feels like he’s doing the SAME. he’s smiling but there are tears rolling down his cheeks nonetheless, but they’re caused by HAPPINESS, not by pain. during the last few weeks he’s done enough of that, but now she’s here and it feels like he’s HEALING.
❝ I ain’t gonna leave ya’ ❞, he promises, repeating her words but he MEANS every single word of them. ❝ we’ve always been a team. I shouldn’t have left ya’ back then — ❞ his voice breaks after that. the guilt is still there after all these years, he should never have told her to run. ❝ ’m gonna make up for that, I PROMISE. ❞ hopefully they’ve got enough time for that left because he’s going to make up for every single second they’ve lost.
after feeling alone for so long she finally felt as if things were right.. the things that had been left unsaid in the funeral home; and how she’d been so close to being with her family again. when she’d come back only a week ago, she’d been gutted; so many people had died since she’d seen them so many months ago. the affect of being on her own was her silence to the knowledge she’d gained. maggie had been worried about her, worried she’d lost part of herself and in some ways she had. ❝ ain’t gotta promise me anything; just be here, ❞
thinking you’d never see someone again versus thinking someone was dead; there was no comparison. knowing someone is alive, out there SOMEWHERE was arguably worse in some ways. her hand was on the back of his neck as she held him close to her then pressed her lips to his cheek before looking into his eyes ❝ when i said you’d miss me... i’d hoped you never have to, ❞
daryl wondered how long this could all go on, how the world would be after the large majority of walkers had rotted off leaving the broken society in its wake. he didn’t know, things had been better for him than most, he’d never say it out loud but the dead waking from their supposed never ending slumber had been the best thing to ever happen to him; now he felt alive, now he had a family…. he could live.

𝓚al listened as Beth explained that she was exhausted from the heat of the sun. Summers in the new world was exhausting– there were no fans or air conditioners to cool a place down. All one could do was stay in the shade and try and drink as much water as possible. “Take your time. At least they managed to put up some sort of tent over the tables.” He looked up toward the canopy above their heads. He then pushed his glass of water over toward Beth. “Here, take it. I don’t want you getting sick.” Kal gave a small smile after he spoke. “Today was okay… Bit of a slow day. But being head of security, you can never lower your guard. I hate to say it but even sitting here it’s a little difficult to clock out.”
beth looked at the glass of water and took it, taking a long drink before sighing, “yeah, it’ll be nice when its snowin’ out not to sit on a wet bench,” she laughed as she looked around the people bustling about. “was thinking about going hunting later,” she admitted; it was a way she’d found to clear her head. even if daryl managed to keep enough meat here at hilltop, sometimes she just needed to remind herself just what was outside these walls, that she wouldn’t always be this safe. “course you can’t let your guard down, you wouldn’t be so good at what you do if you did, but i bet it gets real boring up there,” she said scrunching up her nose a little as she sighed. “i have to keep movin’ or the little things catch up with me,” admitting that was harder than she’d let on - there were a lot of small things that she had never really come to terms with that she wanted to ignore.

Deacon had been tracking the deer too, however, his movements started to slow as he heard someone approaching from ahead of him. Just behind the deer was a woman…. a marauder?
He cautiously went to take a step back but a c c i d e n t a l l y stepped on a twig alerting his presence… shit. He had been careless. He slowly rose up from his squatting position and gestured to the deer,
“I was just h u n t i n g… Seems like you had the same idea.”
He eyed her carefully, watching her hands to see if she was going to pull any w e a p o n s on him… he couldn’t be too careful.
beth eyed the man warily for a moment before lowing her bow then looking to the deer, “you got any people with you?” she asked as she checked her surroundings for walkers not wanting to be taken by surprise. she didn’t normally see people when she came out on her own, seeing as she kept real well hidden, she was usually able to skip the more populated areas then just go hunting. if she was going to feed everyone back in the community she needed to catch another buck, this would last them the week at best. “got people to feed, “ she murmured as she walked to the deer and pulled out her hunting knife to begin dressing the deer. she didn’t want to haul back three hundred pounds of deer if she could help it, so getting the skin off, and the guts out would lighten it bu at least a hundred and fifty pounds - this buck was quite large so she couldn’t be sure even how much he was or how much she could lift.

“𝓨ou doin’ okay?” Kal asked as he sat across from the young woman at the set of picnic tables at Hilltop– usually where the community came together for meals after a long day of work. “You look beat.” He commented, hoping that his words didn’t cross any sort of line with her.
Beth looked up from her hands then nodded with a small smile, “ it’s hot... almost too hot, feelin’ drained from the sun, ” she was used to working now, to digging in the dirt, getting her hands dirty. It didn’t mean exhaustion didn’t haunt her like some kind of plague, she’d been more tired in Hilltop than she’d been when she was on her own. Working on the small farm, helping to plan the expansion of the walls, going on runs.
Back at the prison she’d never have been able to do those things, even though Maggie was protective of her - she demanded this freedom to be a real part of the community. To be treated like an adult, and so her sister had relented, and agreed. “ kinda wishin for winter right about now, ” she joked a little. “what about you, you’ve been keepin’ watch all mornin’ you gotta be tired too, ”
main canon; beth greene is the 2nd daughter to herschel greene, but the only child between he and his second wife. when the dead rise, his wife and son are both killed by walkers, beth takes their deaths harder than anyone else in the family but with the comforting hand of her sister and patricia she begins to heal slowly. her delicate emotions are barely touched on by her family once rick grimes arrives at the farm after otis had accidentally shot him through a buck he’d been tracking.
beth helped with the boy, and slowly got to know the others - but her father didn’t much like them there, so he forced her to keep her distance. during this time, jimmy was more persistent about their relationship but she had told him time and time again that she didn’t want that with anymore. he was nice enough but he wasn’t what she wanted, she had expected a small summer fling then for them to go their own ways before she began her senior year of high school.
when the barn was opened by shane walsh she’d seen her momma and brother shawn; her heart had shattered into a million pieces. why had they been out there? why didn’t they recognize her. the dose of reality broke her heart and she was unable to cope with the loss of her family, she made a decision and andrea helped her with it by leaving her alone.
but it was wrong she didn’t want to die she couldn’t imagine leaving her daddy and sister alone - not when they’d already lost so much. from that day forward she’d do everything she could to survive, she’d never let her emotions break her down as much as they had that day no matter how much it hurt; she had to keep on living.
the fall of the farm came with several causes, rick and shane shooting off a gun in the woods and the fact that it was just time for them to move on. being unsure if her sister or brother were dead was something that terrified her till they got onto the road.
verse one. beth toughens up while on the farm instead of falling into a depression in the beginning she asks someone from the group to teach her how to shoot a gun. she wants to know how to protect herself from the dead, how to keep herself safe from anything or anyone who might try to hurt her. verse two. beth breaks up with jimmy right at the beginning of the breakout but he is stubborn and don’t listen to her. always calling her his girlfriend around everyone, and he is persistent. telling her daddy about it doesn’t help because he thinks this is some kind of cute teen relationship spat, so she turns to her sister for assistance in the matter hoping she’ll be able to ward jimmy off.
starter for @nebraskaseemsnice beth had been walking for so long when she exited the small run down convenient store she opened the stale chocolate bar and took bite scrunching her nose at the flavor. she’d had better but the times were hard when all she could find were small bits of food here and there, hunting wasn’t her strong suit but she’d gotten better at it over the many weeks of being on her.a long sigh escaped her as she finished off the last of her water, “river,” she murmured to herself, a flowing body of water would be a good source for her to fill up - she probably drank more than enough, in the distance she could hear a car and scurried across the road and into the treeline. cars mean people. people meant trouble - she’d had enough of that to last a life time. she remembered the farm, and the prison, and the the funeral home with daryl. people got you hurt, be it emotionally or physically. every time she grew close to someone they died, a part of her didn’t know if she could do it again.

plotted starter for @765daysgone Beth was tired of it all, being a leader, the building of her community - she’d never wanted this and suddenly she realized this must have been how Rick felt after the farm, after the prison. Except she hadn’t seen anyone since the hospital, she woke up in the trunk of a car - she’d have thought she was dead too but as much as her heart ached for her family, she couldn’t bring herself to trust again. Trust, led to love and love led to the kind of pain she couldn’t take anymore. Even if she knew she wouldn’t take the easy way out like she’d tried at the farm, the reminder was always there. As she trekked through the forrest, tracking the deer for what felt like hours she slowed when she saw it in the field, holding up her compound bow and hitting it just behind the ribs causing it to walk; one step, two step then fall over dead. i’m getting good at this, soon i won’t need you anymore she felt the memory tickle the edge of her mind and she forced it back, that was another world - one that for her, didn’t exist as much as she wanted it to; as much as she wished they’d had continued their conversation at the funeral home... this was it. This was her life now. A twig snap in the distance made her rush forward towards the deer to make sure no walkers tried to take her meal for the small town but held up her bow when she saw another person instead, “What do you want?” she demanded, her voice probably coming off a lot harsher than she’d meant it too - people were rare now, more rare than they’d ever been she figured but she knew she couldn’t trust just anyone.
