TEMPORARY PROJECT : Experimenting With Grass
This week I engaged with different materials to replicate hair.
Here I experimented with grass that I gathered in my back garden. I placed them on a piece of back paper surrounding a white chalk outline of a human head, I displayed a variety of different hairstyles as it was easy to move the pieces of grass into different shapes.
In the second photo you can see that the grass is turning yellow which was ideal as it gives the piece a bleaching look. Not only are hairstyles/haircuts temporary but the colour of grass is which ties in quite well with my temporary theme.
Here I experimented with these photos in Lightroom. This allowed me to enhance and change the colour of the pieces of grass.

Image description: A Black woman sits at a work table with wrinkled tobacco leaves piled on it. She is holding a tobacco leaf with both hands and looking at it. Her hair is sectioned and braided with loops in front of her ears. She wears a crisp white blouse, a plaid apron, and a necklace of oval beads or pearls. Other workers can be seen in the background.
The Wodaabe are traditionally nomadic cattle-herders and traders in the Sahel, with migrations stretching from southern Niger, through northern Nigeria, northeastern Cameroon, southwestern Chad, western region of the Central African Republic and the northeastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The number of Wodaabe was estimated in 2001 to be 100,000. They are known for their elaborate attire and rich cultural ceremonies.
