i’ve been thinking about this lately but i cannot imagine how you’re supposed to deal with suffering 2 major acl tears, and then constantly dealing with nagging injuries throughout your college career, and then missing so many games because of those injuries, and then spending your summers rehabbing instead of focusing purely on your development, and then getting injured again a couple weeks after making your comeback in your senior year, and then never getting recognition even from your own team’s media, and then getting harassed on the daily about every aspect of your character, and then having the most vile shit imaginable said about every aspect of your being, and then being really brave and vulnerable and sharing your relationship with the world only for people to start prying and making endless rumors about you, and then having the prying get so bad that people are messaging your family members asking about the status of your relationship, and then having the comments of your own fans become indistinguishable from the comments of the people who hate you, and then being left for dead on the court and suffering the worst loss of your career in your last college game, and then working endlessly at your craft and (deservedly!) getting drafted first overall for your skills only for people to push the idea that your relationship is the only reason that that happened, and then having people constantly discredit your game and push you into the shadow of someone else, and then having people view you only as an extension of your partner and only care about you because of your relationship, and then being so excited to start a new chapter of your life only for the media to go into a frenzy and ask you about your relationship status at your introductory fucking press conference, and then having your team and organization completely fumble the situation and make the narratives even worse, and then getting moved out of the starting lineup in your very first career game causing another media frenzy, and then never getting a consistent amount of touches from game to game, and then not having your coach be concerned about the lack of touches or lack of rhythm built for much of the first part of the season, and then have your talents as a generational shooter be reduced to being used as a floor spacer for the first several games of your career, and then carrying the defensive load of multiple teammates because nobody else will do it, and then running your legs into the ground every game after a full college season to carry said defensive load, and then having your shooting talents again become an after thought to your defensive capabilities, and then being looked off by your teammates and iced out of the offense, and then being turned to on the offensive end primarily in desperation scenarios despite being ill-fitted for the situations with minimal touches beforehand, and then having disingenuous conversations about your play and your situation be pushed by the media with even the professional sports team you’re competing against piling it on, and then witnessing yet another social media frenzy every week of people saying you don’t deserve to have something that you never had any choice in to begin with. and all of that happens before you even turn 24
