“I’m quite sure I am. That depends on what kind of prize you’re after, I’m not one to give things away freely.” That was far from the truth though, it only took a few weeks after Brook’s return for him to surrender his heart to her and there was nothing else he wasn’t willing to give her.

“Hmm.” Brook made a show of thinking it over for a moment before tapping her cheek. “A kiss on the cheek sounds like a reasonable prize to me.” She suggested lightly with a small smile on her lips.

“Tom. You must have bad eyesight from getting old. That is most obviously a rabbit.”

“That’s not possible, everyone knows people who’ve lost a limb have excellent eyesight. It is most definitely a tortoise.”

"Hmm. I'm not sure that you're right. I suppose it could be a tortoise but will I get a prize if I agree with you?"

Tom crossed his arms feigning upset. “You must be seeing things, Brook. It’s quite obviously a tortoise, it has the shell and everything!”

“Ah, that’s one of my favourite things to do.” Tom said, laughing as he leaned back to rest on the grass. “Look!” He said, pointing to a cloud floating above their heads, “Do you think that one looks like a tortoise?”

Brook smiled looking up at the cloud he had pointed out. It did indeed look like a tortoise but she always refused to agree with him on the shapes. “No don’t be ridiculous. That is a duck.”

“Mm, especially when they’re with you.” Tom hummed his agreement, grinning lazily down at her. “I would be content just to sit here and enjoy the sun if you were by my side.”

Brook looked around the empty clearing deciding that perhaps they could waste the day there. Grinning she she moved so she was just a bit in front of Tom and pushed at his chest so that eh would lay down in the grass. Grinning she laid in the grass next to him. “We shall lay here and watch the clouds then. You can argue with me about what shapes they’re forming.”

“It’s kind of inspiring, though,” she responded, looking back and forth between Brook and the sky above them. “It’s as if this day was to remind us that not everything has to be a doom and gloom. Don’t you think?”

“Yeah.” Brook smiled leaning back onto her elbows to stare up at the sky herself. “I like that thought. That it’s kind of saying that everything will be okay.”

“I know, I know.” If anyone had reason to distrust people, it was Brook, but impatience often got the better of Tom and sympathy was far from a natural instinct for him. “That sounds really nice.” The idea of a night together made him feel all warm inside and he quickly placed an innocent kiss on her forehead as it rested on his shoulder.

Brook blushed a bright red as he kissed her forehead. She was pleased that he wanted to spend the day with her. She had missed him and she wanted him around as much as possible. “Great! It’s a date then. What shall we do first? Did you want to take a walk? Or we could go to your home if you just wanted a lazy day. Sometimes those are good.”

Tom had been angry when Brook ran out on their date but he’d understood why she’d done it. He was hurt to hear that she’d stayed away out of fear and it showed on his face. “You shouldn’t have. I would have liked to know you were okay a little earlier.”

Brook could see the hurt on his face and it tore at her heart. “I really am sorry Tom. Sometimes I’m not good with others. I get caught up in my own mind and forget that I might be hurting someone. Let me make it up to you. We can spend the day together I could make you dinner. I’m a decent cook.”

“Still got a few bumps and bruises, but other than that I’m all healed.” It was thanks to Brook that he had escaped without any worse injuries, but his gratitude was mixing with guilt for letting her get hurt. “I’m glad for that, I’ve been worried about you.”

Brook smiled tilting her head up to press a light kiss to his cheek. “You’re sweet to worry. I promise I’m fine though. I’m glad that you’re doing well. I kept meaning to come see you but I wasn’t sure if you would want to see me.”

“I’ve certainly been better, but I am glad that we’ve made up now.” He said with a glowing smile. “And you? How are you feeling?”

Brook was more than happy to have made up with Tom. She always hated fighting with him. “Are you still hurting? I’m alright. A little sore but nothing too bad.”

“Then I suppose we should both be very grateful for the fact that I can’t.” He gave a small, affectionate laugh to see her joy and slung a gentle arm around her shoulder.

Brook smiled laying her head on his shoulder. “Of course! I would hate if you were mad at me. I would have to be evil and devious to force you to forgive me. How have you been?”

“What a lovely name.” Marinda shook Brook’s hand briefly before taking it back. “It’s lovely to meet you too, Brook,” she answered before she looked up at the sky. “It truly is a lovely day. It really makes me glad I’m here to enjoy it.”

“Well thank you. Yours is quite lovely as well. It is such a gorgeous day. It’s almost sad that it can be so bright and beautiful so soon after such a horrific event. A little comforting too though.”

“Charmed.” Brandon smiled before he looked about, unable to help but agree. He’d attempted to ‘make nice’ with The Fangs, which had gone quite poorly - now he had no interest in crossing any of them, anytime soon. “I appreciate the help, I don’t know how I got so turned around.” Brandon smirked. “I swear I’m usually quite good with direction.”

Brook smiled up at the man as she led him towards the grove of trees. He seemed nice and charming and perhaps just a little childish. It put her at ease and she felt free to let her natural bubbly side show through a bit. “Perhaps you just think that you’re good with direction but in reality aren’t.” She teased lightly offering him a smile.

Tom glanced over at her, his serious expression quickly melting into an indulgent smile. “Yes, you’re forgiven. I never can stay upset when I’m with you.”

“Wonderful.” Brook giggled clapping her hands a bit as he so easily agreed to forgive her. “I imagine I would always be in trouble with you if you could stay upset with me.”

“Do you promise?” He asked, eyebrows crinkled together in concern. “I just want to make sure you’re as safe as possible.”

“I promise.” She smiled sweetly tilting her head. “Am I forgiven?”

“That seems a good a place as any to start.” The warlock said gratefully before offering his hand. “I”m Brandon, a pleasure - miss?”

Brook stared up at the offered hand for a moment before grasping it to pull herself up from the ground. “Brook. That grove is just over this way. We should hurry before it gets dark.”

He was a little surprised, but Tom struggled to tell her no so with a sigh he said, “I almost wish you hadn’t protected. You could’ve been seriously hurt and I don’t think I would have been able to forgive myself if you did. But… I missed you too.”

“I’m fine though. It’s not as if I’m going to start running off and throwing myself in harms way all the time. I’m happy to leave the protecting to you if that makes you happy.”
