Another old forum game I've decided to bring to tumblr for all to enjoy. Give me your warrior names and I'll rate them 1-10! I will also rate Tribe and Ancient styled names too. All 10's will be put in the pinned post's Hall of Fame!

Rating scale

0-1 = This is a rude or offensive name 2-3 = I don't like this 4-5 = solid name, but isn't exciting to me 6-7 = solid name, this is a good one 8-9 = Creative and stylish, I really like this! 10 = I love this name

Warrior Code

- DISCLAIMER: these are only my opinions!! Everyone has their own taste when it comes to warrior names and part of the reason the fandom is so wonderful is because there is a lot of variety in aesthetics. Just because the name is a 5 for me doesn't mean it isn't someone else's 10! 

- Please only give 10 names maximum per ask. As with all my games, you can come back with more after the first set is rated

- Please send a list of names only, not full character descriptions. If you have context for the group or world, put it above the name list. I typically do not read any personality descriptions when rating a name; only notes such as "dishonor title" or "renamed after x" will be considered for rating.

- I give a rating breakdown to names I have complex feelings about, or feel strongly about. You may ask politely for reasons, but I'm more likely to give reasons to regulars.  - Please only submit warrior names. Tribe names (Brook where Small Fish Swim) or Ancient names (Jay's Wing) are also accepted! Names with default rank suffixes (Firestar, Firepaw, Firekit) will not be rated. Kittypet or loner names (Smudge, Leaf) also will not be rated. I rate names by considering the pairing and flow, and names that are only one part break the system.

- Be patient! I might take a bit to get to your names, especially if the queue is long. I only rate names when I'm in the right headspace; I don't want to rate names poorly simply because I'm in a bad mood that day.

- Anon names can be HoF'd, but you won't get credit for your creation!

- Design guesser: give me a list of names and I'll guess their appearance and personality from the name [5 max per ask]

- OC namer: give me a description of an OC and I'll give you a list of names I think would fit [3 max per ask]

3 Jaggedapple -- as much as I like Jagged- I don't know if you can match -apple with a prefix that ends in a 'd' just for clarity, since -dapple is a much more common suffix. I'd love to see -apple in a clearer context!

2 Harshgust -- I'm really not a fan of when the prefix is only there to like, be a adjective for the suffix, you know? I hope they got the name later in life. Poor Harshkit.

5 Jasperwren -- more my style! love -wren.

7 Ravencoil -- really cool use of -coil with this pair. Good flow too

3 Airychirp -- Not a huge fan of either of these parts, and I don't know if they really make each other better.

5 Tarantulajump -- solid

6 Albatrossflight -- Also solid. + points for a more uncommon bird.

5 Volecradle -- really not sure about -cradle. I think it might be something that would grow on me over the course of a story, though.

8 Marshbuck -- Love -buck here!! This pairing is super solid imo I like the flow, the concept of it, and both parts compliment each other really well in tone.

7 Dandelionleap -- One of the more basic names on your list, but I love it a lot

3 Windkick -- I really don't like -kick in this context

4 Monardellazip -- Monardella- is SUPER cool! but -zip really doesn't fit it imo

Answering this now so you don't have to worry about it but:

No worries!! Really!! It's a soft rule, one extra name isn't gonna kill me heh

All the rules are kinda soft rules. I promise no one's ask is going to be removed for adding an extra name, or a leader's name in the mix, or sending an ask when you already have one in the box.

Those rules are in place to like... set expectations? Like "hey! Please don't spam my inbox thanks!" or "hey, please don't send me really long lists of dozens of names all at once". They're not hard rules per se, I'm just setting expectations to keep us all on the same page and happy <3

Because some name raters like asks with a whole Clan's worth of names! And some don't mind if the same person sends three asks in a row!

But I get burnt out if the lists are too long, and I like knowing everyone has a chance to have their turn. Really, as long as you're not being intentionally rude or trying to push my boundaries, we're all chill here!!

#1: Lilacpaw

She/her Calm, curious, attentive

Lilacpaw is a medium-furred cream spotted tabby molly with dark blue eyes. Her fur is a very pale ginger, the first touch of gold on a morning sunrise. Her tabby markings are only slightly darker, a faint dappling atop her pelt that runs in a wide stripe down her spine, breaking off into oblong dotted lines that run vertically down her flanks. Her dark blue eyes have lavender starbursts in the iris. Her tail is short but exceptionally fluffy, with long, feathery fur. Longer fur frames her ears and her cheeks, as well as dripping down her chest in a plume.

A calm molly, Lilacpaw isn't one to leap to conclusions or make hasty choices. She is cautious and takes her time. She is perceptive and curious, and always has plenty of questions lined up for when she has the opportunity to ask them. Lilacpaw has a deep attention to detail, which can blind her to the big picture. She tends to lose sight of a cat's motivations, overanalyzing their actions without taking into consideration the context, and so can be a poor judge of character. Lilacpaw is a good speaker and a good listener; throughout her apprenticeship she participated in council meetings as a spokescat for the Clan's youth, learning to advocate for them and their needs.

what are your least favorite prefixes or suffixes? i want to try making a decent name out of them!

Ooooh interesting question! And good luck with that! Here's a short list of things at the top of my head:

Anywhere: -Egg- YUCKY!! I always reroll this in Clangen ngl it just feels yuck. it's like moist for me. Bad word. Alliteration in general is also not something I enjoy. Just don't like when the prefix and suffix start with the same thing most of the time, it feels a little too??? Jaunty? Kids poetry book? idk it's not for me in like 9/10 cases.

Prefixes: I feel I'm pretty on board with most things? Like most things can work with the right suffix. Gerund prefixes (Raining- Gusting- Leaping-) can be hard to use, though. Same with adjectival nouns (Snowy- Misty- Foggy-). I feel you REALLY have to have a good reason to use those instead of the noun versions. Making a good name with one of those would def be a challenge!

Suffixes: A lot easier to have preferences on tbh -purr -hiss -nest -zoom (also a hard reroll in Clangen for me) -spin -twist and -twirl are also in the meh zone -shine (SO overused) any emotion word like -brave, -hope, -dream. They typically end up feeling cliche/sueish -call or -song with bird prefixes (-feather and -wing to a slightly lesser extent. But cmon, you can do better) -fur -pelt and -tail are fine for filler names, but I'm of the opinion they can never be more than average at their peak, and boring at their worst. Not always a bad thing in the right contexts, but they tend to score poorly on my scale. -claw -fang and -foot are just a step up from that, but these can break containment and be good picks occasionally, where the other three usually cannot As for favorites... just a few that I mention a lot: Bugs tend to get a high score Hazel- Heather- Jagged- -shatter -gaze -hawk (honestly most any animal as a suffix is a win imo)

9 Dropletshine -- I usually don't like -shine very much, but WOW is this name fitting! I also love the flow, and Droplet- is super cute

8 Kelpjay -- Also love this name! It's just the tiniest bit awkward with two single syllables, but it's super unique and I'm always a huge fan of bird suffixes. It looks so cool to the eye, too. Every time I see it I get a little happy inside <3

6 Coralheart -- Fitting and sweet. Coral- is super cool

5 Sandswipe -- The most basic of the four. A solid name, but nothing to make it stand out. Sorry Sandswipe!
