Is it a crime to be a witch that doesn’t use essential oils? Because every spell that I have found in my Witchy Information Books™ has oils in it and that is not my thing.

Essential oils are big right now but access to them is a fairly modern thing, so they aren’t really a traditionally witchy thing. Which means spells with them are also essentially modern. Older methods would have worked with herbs, spices, resins and oils. But the oils would likely have been infused oils and animal fats. 

You can experiment with infused oils if you want to incorporate those. Take a good handful of any herb and place it in a jar that you can seal tightly. Pour any light flavored oil over the herbs and seal the jar. Put it in a dark place and shake every couple of days. Test the concoction after a couple of weeks. Some people like to make stronger infusions by straining the first batch of herbs and pouring the oil over more herbs. 

If you’re a kitchen witch, olive oil infused with basil, oregano, rosemary or other herbs is wonderful to cook with. (You CAN”T cook with essential oils. Those are dangerous.) Extracts, like vanilla and peppermint, are often used in baking and candy making and can be used in witchcraft.

Lost Something?

Here’s a quick and easy spell I always use when I’m having trouble finding a lost object.

Stand in a clear space in the room where you’re searching, look up at the ceiling, and clap your hands three times.

Household spirits, gather round Let now what is lost be found

Let your gaze fall where it will. Check for the lost item in the first place that draws your attention.

I use this often. It never fails. Seriously. Works. Every. Time.

It helps to leave out some sweets or a glass of juice or wine every so often to keep those little helper spirits happy.

✹find a place where you feel comfortable. face the south. ✹put your charcoal in your heatproof bowl and light it. ✹put the bay leaves, yarrow, and marjoram into the bowl. ✹place your hands above the bowl as if you’re warming them with the flame. ✹while the contents of the bowl are burning, close your eyes and think of the goals you wish to achieve. ✹say: give me strength  give me courage give me the confidence i need to flourish  as my blood runs through me let others see that i will not falter on my path to succeed ✹you can wait for the contents of the bowl to burn all the way or you can put out the flame when it feels like the spell has been completed.
