Deya, the first Trollhunter

Hey by the way I just wanted to make it clear, in case I came across otherwise in my previous posts–

I do not dislike human Jim. In fact, I quite like him. He was always my favorite character in Trollhunters even before his transformation. I have no qualms with human!Jim whatsoever.

I just like troll!Jim more. I personally find his halftroll form to be more interesting in terms of character development, story potential, and design. More enjoyable to watch. More fun to draw and speculate and headcanon about. Overall just more intriguing and appealing.

Troll!Jim has been my #1 fav from literally the moment he showed up and I’ve spent quite a long time now growing stupid attached to this specific form of this specific character. And uhhh frankly I feel like I’ve been one of his few “defenders” from the moment I joined the fandom (which from what I’ve gathered was apparently at the tail end of an anti-Merlin fandom war in which troll!Jim got tangled up), which just kinda…made me double down on my attachment. So….that’s why I’m so disappointed to see him changed back.

anyways. For now I think most (not necessarily all but most) of my future ToA art and stuff is gonna take place in an AU where pretty much everything is the same except that Jim came back in his halftroll form instead of his human form. Obviously this will be reconsidered when the movie comes out and we see what happens there. But for now…yeah. I’m just gonna draw what I want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If that’s not your cup of tea that’s cool. But…yeah.

All that said, I’ll try not to make any more major salt posts on this topic. I think at this point I’ve more or less already said all I have to say. I respect y’all’s preferences, even if I disagree with them, and hope you can do the same in return. best wishes

I agree! I like Troll!Jim way more! And I think Claire did too. I was so upset when he changed back.

One thing that Jim and Cole have in common… That would have to be, the fact that both were stripped of transformations that were supposedly irreversible and led to further character development and new challenges they had to face with certain limitations on their changed body, but then all of a sudden they are “cured” because the plot taken called for the change.

Yeah, that’s the only thing about Wizards that I didn’t like. I wanted Jim to stay in his “buff crazy blue troll” form and have to deal with some side effects from being hit with the blade. That would’ve been so cool!

Yeah yeah, we're talking about it again. But, if they made more ads for Onward advertising stuff I'd be talking more about that. (I mean, Inside Out had ads for State Farm, Subway, Sky broadband and Clorox, those emotions sold a lot)

Anyway, so in the ad, Barley and Ian try to preheat the oven and fail, most likely cause there's no spell called "oven activar". Then Laurel saves the day by preheating the oven remotely with an app on her phone, advertising that gimmick on the product. Then the ad ends with her showing the boys it was her who also "has magic powers" by turning off the oven with her phone.

At first I thought it was just cutesy, showing off that gimmick that you can control the oven with a phone app. But @anonwardblog pointed out that when the oven turned on remotely they probably thought the spell worked. Then commented how Ian was proud of himself until realizing it was the app.

Now that awkward chucking during the dinner makes some sense. Ian was probably laughing to himself with everyone else, but inside he was thinking "oh Shantar's Talon, I'm terrible at this 😞"

This is something that was a hard earned lesson for me growing up as a Black girl and as a Goth on top of that.

For all of today’s teens who are alienated by your peers, bullied, and rejected they answer IS NOT to try and win over those who cast you aside. The answer is to accept yourself. Easier said than done? Absolutely. But the more you practice it the easier and more effortless it will become. You’re worth it.

So I noticed something in Onward.

When the bros planned to grow the gas can Ian says it was a weird idea. But Barley simply replies enthusiastically “I know! I like it too!” So I like to think that Barley sees the word weird as something positive instead. If he says something is weird that means he’s into it because it’s unique to him and not normal. If Barley says someone is weird he would mean it out of a term of endearment, it means he may see that person as someone who is incredibly special and unique to this world who is a lot of fun to be around and admire. I imagine Barley doesn’t like anything that is super normal and he prefers the more quirky and unique things in life. Hence, he’s into the weird things since he himself is considered not normal by most folk.

I agree! This is one of the themes in my story. A family of dark elves move to New Mushroomton. Their house is all black and their front yard is shrouded with tall bushes blooming with purple flowers. Laurel and the rest of the neighbors think they’re weird and frightening. But Barley thinks they’re really cool.

Late 90s/Early 2000s Internet & Goth Nostalgia

I found it! Oh my god, I used to scour these websites as a teen. They all were posted sometime in the 90s and remained online into the early 2000s.

The Angelfire page is so terribly nostalgic. I used to go on goth Webrings and look at Tripod, Geocities, and Angelfire pages of other teens. I would leave a message on their guestbooks and had a nice conversation with a few (whom I sadly lost contact with). I love that Tumblr is the Angelfire of today as it allows you to share your interests and passions and find others who can join in your inner world.

Yet, I still miss the online Goth zines like Morbid Outlook and Gothic Preservation Society/Dark Culture Magazine. As a Black teen growing up in the ghetto these pages made me feel like I wasn’t alone.
