John Blanche
Blanche, 1974. These are a selection from Ninth Day, a poetry anthology by Chris Todd. Blanche also shared the book with fellow artist Geoff Taylor, who would later become a prolific Games Workshop cover artist. The aesthetic is very much of the time, showing a strong Art Nouveau influence which was in vogue in the early 70s. In the ensuing years after this project, Blanche’s exposure to the early Punk scene would send him away from the hippy-nouveau and into the grim and dark… (Thank you to Blanche-fan Jon for these!)

The art of John Blanche.
“There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we’ll know better next time.”
— Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Tom Stoppard
John Blanche’s fantastic piece entitled Amazonia Gothique was commissioned by Lee Payne for the cover of Cloven Hoof’s Dominator. Due to the album taking some time to be ready, it was first used as the cover of issue #79 of White Dwarf. A tabletop gaming figure with the name Kinky Chaosette was later released as a tribute to John Blanche.

No one was injured when a massive sinkhole erupted in downtown Ottawa in June 2016, but the metaphorical aftershocks from the collapse — par
so, this happened..
for anyone not from here, they are trying to build a underground train system in ottawa to get people to their commute faster.. and build the downtown mall bigger, because its so busy there. they have had most of the road shut down for weeks… just buses through the narrow opening in front of the mall.
today, early, there was shake.. then a big sinkhole opened.
thing is… see that third pic?
it opened in the middle of the busiest street in the city. even if its only being used for buses, every bus in the city gets routed though there pretty much.
also it busted water mains and gas pipes, which meant there where some evacuations..
see, right up the street from this? like literally a few blocks up the street is our parliament buildings.
funny world really.
Happy National Sinkhole Day to all those who celebrate!

John Blanche, one of the people who gave warhammer a visual identity, has passed away.
I don’t think that I need to talk about how influential he was or how talented and gorgeous his artwork was, I think that speaks for itself.
The world was a bit more colorful to have him, and the world of Warhammer 40k was more grimdark thanks to him.
Requiescat in pace.
