The City Beyond | Bryon
Poppy knew that although she hoped he would believe her and let it go, he was far from stupid and he should know better than anyone that being in the hospital were a bit more serious than anything. Poppy shrugged her bony shoulders a little, before she attempted a new smile. “We both have been busy.” She corrected him. “You have had your finals and I have, well I was going to surprise you, but I was actually preparing to have sort of break through in my career.” She said. It hurt knowing she wasn’t. At least not this year, but next year she would! She would do better then, a lot better. “I was about to walk my final walk before getting confirmed for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, and I kind of fainted and had a small concusion.” She said, trying not to make the last part a too big a deal.
Listening to her closely, Bryon knitted his brows like sharply molded steel. On any given day, the news about the fashion show would’ve made him happy for her, but with having a few friends from the same industry as Poppy, he knew fairly well what went on behind the scene, the pressure those kind of people put the models through. His icy blue eyes reflected concern as she continued to explain, letting him know that she’d fainted and now had a light concussion. Letting out a sigh sigh, his hand palmed her cheek as he kept his eyes pierced on her. “You don’t need a break through in your career, Poppy. You need a break. Period,” he muttered, still concerned over the fact that she tried to make it sound less important than it was.

Poppy did not take notice to the sound of footsteps approaching from the hallway. The nurse on the other hand, was about to open her mouth to speak, but a familiar voice filled the room. Poppy jumped a little, before she quickly turned around. From where she was seated, a familiar face approached her. She tucked the robe quickly a little tighter around herself, before she cleared her throat. “Bryon.. Hey.” Was all she managed to speak at first. Catching her breath a little, she smiled. “I figured you were busy with studying, so I got myself admitted thinking it was the only way I could see you.” She said with a clearly joking tone of voice. “No, I.. Um.. It’s is just silly. Don’t worry about it. How have you been?” She got up from her chair and folded her hands a little around his neck, letting her lips touch his cheek a little, before letting them rest on his chest.
Too concerned about Poppy, Bryon barely even noticed the nurse in her room. Though the blonde’s witty comment would’ve made him smile on any given day, he was too worried about her presence here at the hospital to react to it. “Don’t worry about it?” he repeated questionably, not buying it. People didn’t exactly get admitted to the hospital for ‘silly’ things, so why she was trying to downgrade the reason for her stay was beyond him. As she approached him, he wrapped his arms around her, quickly realizing that her waist seemed a lot smaller than last time he’d held her in his arms. Come to think of it, her face seemed different, too. The white color of her skin, the way she held herself — even her cheekbones were more prominent than before, like she hadn’t been eating for what seemed to be a while. “Clearly, I’ve been absent,” he then replied, unable to take his eyes off of her. “Tell me what happened, Poppy.”

Poppy was in the chair by the window. She had just had breakfast, and the nurse was still in the room. Watching her, like she had been for the last few days. Poppy looked at her with a annoyed facial expression. “I am sorry Miss Mancini, but it is for your own good.” She told her, every time she told her. Sometimes it felt like that was the only thing she ever did say to her, except when she was talking about her cat. Poppy’s eyes drifter over to the window, as she curled up in the chair, eyeing the city beyond.
Due to his studies, Bryon had spent the last month either buried in books or at the hospital. Either way, he hadn’t been able to see Poppy as much as he would’ve wanted, but rest assured he wanted to make up for it as soon as finals were over. To his own surprise, he was gonna face her a hell of a lot sooner than predicted. Walking down the hall at the hospital, he spotted a familiar blonde in one of the rooms. Though she always caught his attention with ease, the hospital gown made him come to a quick halt, causing his co-students to crash right into his back. “Sorry. I’ll be right back,” he mumbled, making an exit from the group to enter what seemed like Poppy’s room. With worried eyes, he furrowed his brows as he approached the blonde. “Poppy? What are you doing here?”
We used to be single, darling. {winks}
You sure make dating sound like an awful lot of fun.
So, who’s the lucky bastard keeping you chained down?
We can’t do that, don’t be a tease.
Don’t be a drag. You used to be more fun.
Are you better with gin?
You tell me.
Yes, you’re right. This would be much better with gin.
Everything’s better with gin.
[ we are your friends, you’ll never be alone again ]
Because I’m glad to see all my friends again, I really am, but with all that comes all the drama and shit from high school that I tried to put behind me for the past year
I know the feeling, man, but I guess it’s inevitable. It’ll always come back and bite us in the ass.
Your sister? Uh, not sure. I’ve got a half brother I barely talk to anymore, and my boyfriend has a new step brother he barely speaks to, I don’t know if I can help in the sibling department. Have you talked to her? Why is it messed up?
That’s... reassuring. {Shrugging his shoulders, he pursed his lips for a moment.} Barely. I, uh, I haven’t dedicated enough time for her. I know it’s no excuse, but I’ve been buried in papers and school, but I guess she’s fed up with it. She’s moving to England.
