The Future of Data Collection
City of Industry, California, June 09th, 2014 Data acquisition, also known as data collection is a means of receiving a signal and analyze it. Whether it is to measure weight, pressure or flow rate data, data acquisition is an important part and necessary in today's society. Data acquisition is needed for traffic lights to determine the flow of traffic and traffic bottlenecks as well as gas and oil pipelines to determine the pressure and flow rates. Data acquisition is used all around us. For this reason, it is imperative that the integral hardware work seamlessly with different servers, signal analyzers as well as other instrumentation. What good would be a data collector that could not be implemented in to your current hardware? For this reason, we now see many manufactures opting to go with an enclosed small sealed form factor fan less PC design which can be tailored as a dedicated data collector and have the ability to be remotely accessed. Using a fan less design as well as SSD increases the life of the unit ensuring many years operations. Communications Every application as its own unique source and needs to be accessed and accounted. With the option of WiFi, Blue tooth and cloud storage you now have the ability to communicate with the Data Collector across different platforms and in different methods giving you more freedom. Reliable & Durable A good Data Acquisition system will be implemented in to the field where it needs to perform under conditions that regular systems would not perform there best (Moisture, dust or hot conditions) or work at all. Also a reliable system is needed for instances where the installation would be in isolation where there is no tech on call. For this reason, embedded computers would be the best choice. Given their small footprint, fan less design, sealed from external conditions and ability to use SSD, the embedded computers will offer many years of top performance with virtually no maintenance and very low power consumption.
