Sensory Memory
Sensory Memory and Food It had been a month and a half since I had seen Dr. Zentner. I have gained 2 pounds in the interim. I mentioned to her that I have been snacking on unsalted peanuts in the shell a lot. She said that some foods, such as peanuts, have sensory memory. They remind us of our childhood. My memories of peanuts in childhood are going to the zoo and giving them to elephants. Hot…

Honouring Ourselves
February has been a struggle so far. My Mom passed away at the end of January and I needed to fly to another province for her funeral. Needless to say that I wasn’t paying close attention to carbs when I was there. It was the furthest thing from my mind. I’m slowly getting back into a routine again, but it will take some time. I’m going to allow myself some space and time because I believe it’s…

Slowly but surely
This week I was fighting the flu virus so I didn’t do nearly as much as I had hoped. I am tracking my activity and food intake better.  From January 6 until today (the 15th), I have walked 10,000 steps for 3 days out of 9. For 5 of the days, I walked for at least 20 minutes. I did yoga twice, and physio exercises 4 times. I hope my momentum stays and I keep being active, and that I increase the…

Tasks add up
My tasks for this month were to keep a food diary and walk 3x/week at 10,000 steps per day. Every other day I’m to walk at least 20 minutes to sustain cardio. I also will be keeping a food diary again. This is a practice that I stopped doing a while back even though it was working for me. Life gets busy and things like that go to the wayside. But this month I will start keeping a diary again.…

Spare Tire
Another month flew by and here we are at the end of the year already. My life has taken a busy turn these days. I’ve decided that in the new year I will be delegating some tasks to other people just to alleviate my load. Christmas is a tough time of year for weight management. Last week I traveled to another province to visit my parents. While I was there I had some temptations that I was able to…

The Scale of Success
The Scale of Success
I weighed in today and I’m down a half pound this month. It doesn’t seem like much, and I was disappointed. Dr. Zentner reminded me that progress is still being made and that they don’t just measure success by the scale. They measure success by behavioural change mostly and I have been successful with change because I have kept the weight off. This month I have had a lot of stress from school and…

Managing stress
This month has been a tough one for staying on track with my new way of eating. I dropped the ball on Halloween, and had a lot of candy that day. The two weeks preceding Halloween I had mid-term madness week and I had a written test for co-op and an interview. I applied for and got into the arts co-op program at my university but I had to complete a written portion, an interview and a…
