Is USAG gonna get their 300 bucks or whatever back tho now that the inquiry was retroactively annulled lol

CAS reasoned decision is out
FIG does not come out looking well.
Key points I’ve taken away:
1. Yes, there appears to have been a failure to get ahold of the appropriate people at USAG initially. This was identified, new contact information from FIG requested, the full case info sent, an extension granted. USOPC did not participate.
2. USAG was aware of the the disclosure of potential COI by Hamid Gharavi and OK’d his presence on the panel, so that bias argument is going nowhere.
3. Cecile testified that she believed the inquiry was recorded “immediately” and it appears the US did not dispute the omega timing of 1:04. They did not present any evidence that the inquiry was submitted before 1 minute. She confirmed she was aware of the time limit and had attended a training session about the importance of the time limit at the games.
4. The panel dismissed the Romanian accusations that the inquiry for Jordan was done in bad faith and suggested this argument should never have been made.
5. FIG has fucked up beyond belief. Donatella said both that she didn’t check the timing of the inquiry, could have checked the timing of the inquiry, and would have rejected the inquiry if she had known it was late. FIG and Donatella were unable to identify who recorded the timing and apparently had no concrete system for recording or verifying inquiries at the Olympics.
It seems pretty cut and dry. Jordan was royally fucked over by the FIG. There is no wild corruption. I do hope Donatella and the FIG are scalped for this to be honest — it’s such a shitshow.
It is so crazy that they had no way to flag whether an inquiry was late or not.
Also, apparently FIg were the only party that said no to giving all three bronzes, otherwise it would have been fine. unfuckingbelievable.
CAS reasoned decision is out
I didn't read the last few pages yet but seems like USA is cooked lmao. They very much seem to have been informed of everything before trial, and asked to confirm during trial. The CAS rejected the argument that a late inquiry was a field of play decision. Which honestly imo is correct because if not then the written rules are just suggestions lol.
More than that — they declined to ask for more time to provide further evidence the inquiry was submitted on time while agreeing to the omega timing! What exactly are they appealing over?
I also liked that Cecile testified the person who took her inquiry submitted immediately because that was the other thing reddit kept bringing up ("wHaT iF tHeY hAd To SnEeZeeee")
I think the only thing here Reddit have to hold on to is the dismissal of the Romanian allegation that the inquiry was malicious and we will just get a fountain of posts about evil romania against poor USA
When really Cecile is an idiot as previously suspected, Donatella is an idiot as previously suspected and FIG is an even bigger clusterfuck than anticipated but it seems like the USA does not have a hope in hell of overturning this even if it turns out Cecile is right about having evidence of it being submitted on time which is what everyone with sense has been saying all along
She really went in and said she thought she was on time based on vibes alone and said sure sure whatever when they told her it was late lmao 😒 these people are such a joke
Not the consequences of her own blasee attitude biting her and her athlete in the ass?????
One thing I profoundly do not understand about this whole thing is the intense Cecile Landi defense squad because she is an idiot. But actually, she’s precisely the sort of person who probably does coast along on FIG’s benefit of the doubt so much she doesn’t think to question it.
She’s very much not the chief moron here or even close to it. But she’s the least surprising person to wind up in this situation.
She's extremely unprofessional and, ok I'm going to sound like an asshole here but, I think a lot of americans, especially younger ones (millennials and zoomers), think this is acceptable. I'm not saying you have to talk like a boomer CEO but taking things seriously is required of you at your job. How are you going into an arbitration with absolutely no concrete information.
Failing upwards is not just for white men.
Comparing how fast the new medal got awarded for FX EF vs. the Valieva situation doesn't make sense to me. With doping (especially involving a minor) you need a more involved process because it's a very serious accusation against the athlete. Also it's a team event, so rescoring is more complicated than an individual one.
With an overtime inquiry they just checked the timestamps, it's an administrative fuckup. There's no discussion of bans, no one needs to mount a serious defense because there's no accusation against any of the athletes or coaches. Of course it's gonna get resolved faster.
Just nuke the whole sub and start over at this point tbh
The delusional comments are bad, but I find the people who ask bad faith questions that they repeat in the comments of almost every post even harder to tolerate. Like, things that have been explained a number of times. Lots of them favor this one:
Why did they allow Romania to enquire a non Romanian gymnast's score? That against the rules!!!! (How do you pretend to know that federations can only enquire on their own gymnasts scores, but you have no idea that Romania didn't do that. You know they didn't. You are just hoping that you don't get corrected so you can mislead other people.)
It’s obvious a lot of people have no idea what inquiries are about because I’ve read too many comments implying the judges accidentally got jordan’s difficulty wrong, and not that they purposefully downgraded an element they believed was performed incorrectly
Wow he’s really just throwing any potentially scandalous inconsequential détail at the wall and seeing what sticks
Like what does any of this have to do with anything ??? 💀
Idk if it’s thirst for engagement or whatever but this is positively unhinged.
Also reeks of desperation to tie this into the world of skating which it has nothing even remotely related to (other than a CAS case at the most recent olympics)
Obviously this sucks for Jordan but the fact of the matter is that the judges fucked up in her favor 3 times on the day of competition. Crediting the gogean during the inquiry, allowing the inquiry overtime, and giving Sabrina an OOB that never happened.
She got to go up on the podium and have a medal ceremony for a medal she didn’t earn. Ana may get a medal eventually, but she’ll never have that moment of having her flag raised as she stands next to Simone and Rebeca, and Sabrina will get neither. Jordan will go back to a well funded college program and a well funded elite program with tons of potential for endorsements. She’s still got her Olympic gold and silver.
I feel really bad for all of them, this is awful for all three of them, but it’s odd to me that all of the sympathy goes to Jordan and none to the Romanians.

ineligibility as punishment for WHAT lmao??????????
if federations could be banned for the way their fans acted on social media, usag would never see another olympics
How to ensure bias in the discussion
There is a thread on r/gymnastics asking if the sub is biased towards Americans. A number of commenters are saying yes. A lot of commenters are also saying no, post have only been removed for racism etc. so it's not biased towards the US.
I had to laugh. My post was not deleted, but as far as I can tell, I was permanently banned from the sub for the following comment on a thread where people were saying RGF should just let things go and not appeal (because sportsmanship). This was mostly about the OOB.
So if this is the level of push back to US centeredness that gets you permanently banned, then yes, you will have a bias in the discussion.
The best part is that I am right. Now that a US athlete is being impacted by judging issues, they are very unwilling to let it go.
Her gogean being credited on inquiry is like the Root Cause of this shit show that’s being totally overlooked. and in some ways that’s valid tbh but as far as USA stans go…. yeah no there’s no way you cut this that ends with jordan properly deserving 3rd place in that final
Reposting this reddit comment about Laurent Landi's coaching at WOGA in the 2007-2008 era
The eagle/L-grip hang thing is literally something the Nazis would do to Czechoslovak partisans taken as POWs btw 🙃
That last part about Cecile is so dark idk. I wonder if this is why Cecile has become the public facing face for both of them. I feel when they were at WOGA I only ever heard about Laurent but then at WCC it's only ever been Cecile.
Yeah someone who stands by and does nothing while their partner is having a raging temper tantrum directed at children is also abusive in that dynamic. It's sending the message that no one is going to stop him.
