My proposal for a New Work of video art:
- cavernous room
- pitch black
- only one museum patron is allowed in at a time
- the music begins to play
- the video wall slowly lights up
- on screen is a single still frame from the following video
- after 5 seconds you are plunged into darkness
- the docent leads you out of the room
- they hand you a stiff plastic card with a number between 1 and 1445 and an admonition to capture what you have seen in some other form (drawing, voice note to self, etc)
- on the last day of the showing, there is a party with exactly 1445 attendees
- you must find your fellow one second's custodians of the still frame
- you share within your second your works that represent what you saw
- you elect a representative
- the chosen 48 assemble on stage
- they tell the story of what you have seen
- they sit down
- lights down, same music you heard swells
- the film plays at 1/10th speed (3fps -> 8min)
- as your second plays, every frame number card of your second lights up
- as your frame plays, your card glows a slightly different color
- the lights come up, in silence you shuffle outside to a large patio for a social
- you remain in silence until all 1445 of you are there
- then the silence is lifted, it's (art) party time
