alright, i'll be the one to say it. ao3 and tumblr becoming "mainstream" did so much damage to the community and the writers. i have seen loads of videos and posts about:

1. people hating on writers and fics. writing is something we do for free and for fun. if you stumble upon a fanfic that isn't necessarily your cup of tea or you just don't like, scroll. dont read it. literally leave their page. you don't know if this could be the author's first work that they're so excited about, you dont know if the language they're writing in isn't their first language, you dont know that the writer could be a literal teen and loads of other reasons. fanfictions don't HAVE to be perfect. you write what you want to write because we do it for fun and enjoyment and we want to share that to the world. seriously, what is the wrong with that?..

2. x reader consumers getting WAY to entitled. the number of tiktoks i've seen that "i run a strict program when it comes to reading fanfics." girl you aint running shit. this is FAN FICTION you're reading. F A N F I C T I O N. there is no denying that most fanfiction writes are beyond talented but just because you read one fanfic that exceeds your expectations doesn't give you the right to talk down on others that don't. people have their own personal writing style, their way of doing things and you talking shit on that isn't right.

at the end of the day, we are all humans, reading and writing is what we do and what we're meant to do. and for you to talk shit about a person WRITING is so insane. we are humans. not some robots that you can tell what to do so you can consume it.

i've seen so so many authors take down their fanfics and losing all motivation to write because of a hate comment. DONT LIKE DONT READ‼️

and to every author reading this, this community values your work and your contribution. we love u and, please, never let anyone's negative words have an effect on you.

this!!! i completely forgot to mention this!!! so many anon bots have been treating authors like some robots who HAVE to post fanfics 24/7!! happened to my lovely talented mutuals too. you do nothing to contribute to the community or support the authors, you don't like, don't reblog, you don't leave a comment and then you think you get a say in what others will write or get mad that someone's writing style doesn't match the one you like.

The jjk fandom is one of the vilest fandoms i've ever had the displeasure of being a part of.

You ungrateful people will bully fanfic writers and artists, send them death threats and rape threats while somehow acting holier then thaw. You are not a 'normal person' if you send rape threats to someone because they enjoy writing about dark topics.

Majority of you guys deserve absolutely nothing.

If you encounter an account that is maintained to send hate, please block them!

Send or compliment your favourite writer!

If you like fluff more then smut, support fluff writers instead of sending death threats and rape threats to smut writers!!!

Basic Fandom Etiquette Everyone Needs to Remember:

Creators do not owe anyone content. Do not ask writers when they will update.

If an author did not ask for [negative] criticism , do not give criticism.

Read the tags carefully before reading a fanfic.

If you ignored the tags and were upset, that is your responsibility, not the creator’s.

Disliking a ship does NOT give you the right to attack people who enjoy it.

Do not tell authors or shippers that their ship is “disgusting,” “wrong,” or “shouldn’t exist.” Shipping fictional characters is not a moral failing.

No one is obligated to justify why they ship two fictional characters.

Headcanons are PERSONAL interpretations, not universal truth.

Dark themes in fiction do not equal real life beliefs or intentions.

Leaving kudos or short positive comments genuinely matters.

Not every fanwork is made for you, and that is okay.

Scrolling past content you dislike is better than engaging negatively

Enjoying a fandom later than others does not make someone less of a fan.

Disliking a fanfic does not entitle you to announce that to its creator. Sending hate comments to authors is NEVER justified, even if you disliked the work.

I from the bottom of my heart wish the absolute worst for people who go around accusing writers of using ai with their only proof being 'I put it in a ai detector'

Because you guys seemed to have forgotten that ai is the one copying humans,

Now days according to people online, you can't use em dashes, hyphens, commas, dots, italics, quotation marks.

According to them, dividing your paragraphs, also not dividing your paragraphs is a sign of ai.

Capitalizing your 'i', not capitalizing 'i',

not going into much details while writing but also going into too much details when writing,

high word counts but also low wordcounts,

if you post all your chapters in one day, apparently it's all ai but if you take time to post your chapters your also ai.

If you make spelling mistakes, you're ai and if you don't, you're ai too

If you use words that are above third grade reading level, you are ai but if you don't, you're ai too

So what do you want writers to do ? I thought that we are supposed to encourage human creativity, not suppress it when it looks a little different.

If you are a part of this crowd, that goes witch hunting, I genuinely wish you experience the worst things and hope that your favorite author blocks you!

REMEMBER, AI USES HUMAN WORK TO STUDY, NOT THE OTHER WAY SO THINK BEFORE YOU THROW BASELESS ACCUSATIONS AND PUSH PEOPLE AWAY FROM WRITING ALL TOGETHER
