If Fili and Kili shared the same prison cell in Mirkwood
listen. in theory, i know that the hobbit was published in the 1930s and lotr was published in the 1950s, but conceptually, that's never fully sunk in. people were talking about bilbo baggins while world war ii bombs were flying overhead. discussing their favorite characters merry and pippin alongside the news of the brand new polio vaccine. making jokes about mordor between fireside chats. like that's absolutely crazy to me. unreal
It’s common knowledge that Bilbo WILL stab a bitch
Sometimes I joke about how I should’ve named my cat Gollum or Smaug when he’s being a little bastard. But then he does something dumb and entertainingly feral and it just reassures me that Bilbo Baggins was in fact the right name to give him.
Have some laughing Dean (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*: ・゚✧
unfortunately the awful little freak everyone hates has saved the world so now we all have to try to be nice
Samwise giving the eulogy at Gollum’s funeral
Counter argument: Immortal, invisible, malevolent mouse
Ring slips around mouse’s neck and is gone.
The rest of the movie is just the 9 Nazgul trying to capture the mouse while the eye of Sauron watches an extended game of Mouse Trap unfolding before him.
The Gold Po-Tay-Toe didn’t bring me luck so …maybe this???
after seeing LOTR I pause shows everytime someone mentions something even vaguely related. i rewinded this part of B99 approximately 10 times:
Gina: Jake! What are you doing? Give me the ring! Jake: *laughing* You sound like Gollum.
I’m really curious what the opinions on this one are cause I don’t think there’s really an official answer.
Who is the leader of the Fellowship of the Ring?
Frodo
Sam
Merry
Pippin
Gimli
Legolas
Aragorn
Boromir
Gandalf
Did I vote Pippin for the joke? Yes, yes I did.
my favorite scene in LotR as a kid was when Sam started miserably freestyling in the tower of Cirith Ungol and the only reason he ever found Frodo was because he deliriously tried to join in
…i did read some of the novels, but i couldn’t get through them entirely…
…and so i genuinely have no idea whether or not this is serious. coz i mean, obviously, it could be a joke. but it could also have legitimately happened. people who have only seen the films underestimate the amount of random things that happen in the books that could come off as utterly silly and ridiculous if removed from their context.
Haha, well, it is pretty much what happens. Sam is looking for Frodo in the tower of Cirith Ungol and is despairing that he will ever find him. He sits down and does what any self-respecting Tolkien character does during their moments of hopelessness and bursts into song.
It’s a really good song (ten year old Ship had it memorized) and as he begins the refrain a second time, he hears Frodo’s voice answering weakly from above. Frodo is poisoned and despairing and beaten but he is still a Hobbit and cannot resist a singalong even while on the brink of death.
I just have to reblog because it makes me laugh EVERY TIME
if you see this reblog with your favorite thorin and bilbo moment!
When they’re trying to escape Mirkwood and the dwarves are arguing with Bilbo as he’s trying to get them to go into the barrels. Just the little exchange where Bilbo looks at Thorin like “Please help” and all it takes is that one look for Thorin to instantly say “Do as he says”. It’s just such domestic husband type thing of silent conversation it’s so cute ;-;
Me reading Hobbit/LOTR fanfic is literally just:
*Bilbo and Thorin make out*
Me: hehe neat
*Frodo and Sam look at each other fondly*
Me:
Every time I rewatch The Lord of the Rings I oscillate violently between “it’s important to show men having close, supportive friendships and I’m so glad Peter Jackson chose to show all the male characters being loving and physically affectionate with one another in a healthy, platonic way” and “damn, these bitches gay. good for them, good for them”
which movie in the hobbit trilogy is your favorite??
mines probably an unexpected journey!
I genuinely love the vibes of An Unexpected Journey so much, especially since it’s the start of Bilbo’s character arc and you get to see how much he changes in that film alone from start to end, which is why I consider saying it’s my favourite.
However, I think Desolation of Smaug wins by a hair because some of the scenes and dialogue delivery makes me cackle so much. A couple of examples:
- Bombur literally out running most of the Dwarves when they’re being chased.
- Bofur’s signal for Ori and Dori to leave Beorn’s house. Just the little hand motion and the quick “go.” makes me laugh so much.
- Bilbo in Mirkwood climbing across the river: “I don’t see any problems.” *Instantly slips off the branch* “There’s one.”
- Thranduil’s harsh (but hilarious) line delivery in response to Tauriel saying “I do not think that you would allow your son to pledge himself to a lowly Silvan elf?”. Just: “No 😊, you’re right. I would not 😁.”
- Thranduil cutting off the orc’s head and Legolas just deadpan going “Why did you do that?”
LOTR Characters as things I did when I was younger, Part 2:
-> Part 1
- Faramir: Going ice skating with a friend who jokingly dragged me into the middle of the rink and tried to make me slip, only to have it backfire when I somehow turned it back on her and made her lose her balance whilst I stayed upright. (Don't know if this fits w/ Faramir but I feel like he's the type of person to have pranks on him somehow accidentally backfire for whoever's trying to prank him).
- Eomer: Befriending one of the largest horse in the stables that I used to go riding at easily despite the fact that the people working there said he hated most people and wouldn’t cooperate when they took him for rides.
- Eowyn: I genuinely forgot how to cook a dish I cooked regularly for like half an hour and had to physically leave the kitchen to do something else to get my brain to reset. (Happened like last year, but it fits with Eowyn's -10/10 cooking skills so I had to use it here).
- Arwen: Whenever I went with my parents to the local RSPB (a wildlife conservation charity) I used to find the bees on the flowers and literally pet them. I also used my coat to straight up carry them by just gently trapping them inside it (I swear no bees were harmed).
- Elrond: Jokingly being known as Dad by my friend group in secondary school. (Years later it is still a running thing with some of them to the point that their friends, who are a bit younger, genuinely only know me/refer to me as Dad).
- Galadriel: I did karate for a while and one of my favourite games that we'd do at the end of the 'term' was when we had to balance on one leg and the last to put theirs down won. The longer it carried on the more rules there were like: not being allowed to wobble, the instructor putting his foot close to our face or making us laugh, and in the finals you had to close your eyes so you couldn't see who was still in. I always won it whenever we played bc I was competitive af (and there were like GROWN ADULTS in this class that I beat as well).
- Gollum: Spent a few hours messing around by a stream with a little fishing net but got distracted at some point whilst in the water and let go of the net without realising. It got taken by the current and I was too small and slow to catch up to it so I lost it. (Cried when I realised I had lost it ;-;)
- Treebeard: Would have a go at some of the boys in my primary school who snapped the small branch off of the tree me and my friends named Steve because "they hurt it" & it meant we couldn't swing on it anymore.
