It had only been a few months since graduation and the reality of being an aspiring Pro was kicking you firmly in the ass. Sure, you'd been part of the infamous Class 1-A and had tons of agencies scouting you before you had even graduated. But that didn't make the reality of starting out as a sidekick and doing all the shitty jobs any better. Not to mention the massive pay difference between a Pro and a sidekick.
You'd barely been managing to scrape by in the shitty little apartment you'd found. But it was on the opposite side of town from your agency, and everything you thought you'd be saving was now getting spent on transport costs and convenience store food since you were barely home long enough to eat, sleep, and shower. It was exhausting. Exhausting enough, in fact, that a sharp elbow to your ribs and a bubbly giggle brought you back to reality.
"Oh c'mon! Are you seriously that tired?" Mina was sitting next to you on the cracked leather seats of your group's favorite bar.
Lovingly named the "Bakusquad" at UA, you all had made a promise to meet up at least every two weeks to catch up with each other and trade stories from your various agencies. It had quickly become the one thing you looked forward to when life felt like it was trying to drag you under.
You laughed lightly, rubbing your tired eyes, "Yeah, I guess. Not gettin' much sleep between shifts. Plus I'm trying to pick up more when I can, just to have a little extra for these little get-togethers."
"Well, don't overdo it, yeah? We need you in one piece! Who else is gonna keep the boys under control?!"
She nodded her head in the direction of the towering figures that made up the "boys" she was referring to. They'd all grown and matured during their time at UA and after, that was just how growing up worked. What you always forgot about though, was how BIG the guys got. Sero and Denki had stayed pretty lean, they were still strong as hell, but their quirks required more maneuverability than a bulky form would allow. Surprising no one, Kirishima was built like a fucking brick wall; he had to be close to 6'5" now and at least 113kg (250lbs). He was just solid muscle.
And then there was Bakugo. That boy had grown up fine as hell (in your opinion... and the authors). His dedication to being the best meant that he worked tirelessly to maintain, what he considered, the perfect hero build. He was a couple inches shorter than Eijiro, and not nearly as wide. Instead he was proportional and strong, the black t-shirt he was wearing tonight hugged in all the right places; the sleeves looked almost like they might burst from trying to contain his biceps.
"Ugh, don't remind me," you dragged your hand down your face in exasperation.
So far they'd been behaving, but you'd only been at the bar for an hour, who knew what the rest of the night would lead to. Kaminari and Sero threw their heads back in a laugh, clearly at something Kirishima must have said based on the proud grin stretching across his face. Even Bakugo cracked a small smirk.
"You guys doing alright?" Jiro and Yaoyorozu plopped down in the seat next to you, the tips of their fingers barely interlacing.
"Yeah, we're good Yaomomo," you arched a brow at Jiro, a quick glance at their hands to indicate your question without asking.
"Oh, ha," a faint blush bloomed on her cheeks. "We decided to make it official."
"FINALLY!!"
Mina's screech of excitement had the others turning around with quizzical expressions. You reached up to rub at the ringing in your ear.
"Goodness," Momo's hand flew to her chest in surprise. "I didn't think it was that big of a deal."
You switched to simply covering your ear now, anticipating another screech from Ashido.
"NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL?!?!"
"The hell is happening over here?" The boys finally drifted back from where they had been standing, Kirishima leading with a cocked head and confused expression.
"Oh nothing... JUST THE BIGGEST NEWS SINCE WE GRADUATED!!!"
You winced again, deciding it was safer to stand and move away for the sake of your future ability to hear.
"It's really not that big of a deal, Mina!" Jiro was trying desperately to stop her from yelling again. Directing her attention to the rest of their friend group, she held up her and Momo's intertwined fingers, "We made it official."
A small smile flashed across her face as she said it, Yaomomo mirroring the tender look.
"Oh that's great! Congrats guys!" Kirishima raised his glass while Denki and Hanta offered their own congratulations.
"'Bout damn time," Bakugo huffed into his glass. It was the closest he'd get to congratulating them.
The rest of the evening devolved into borderline too personal questions from Mina and the group laughing and chatting late into night. You were probably the most sober of your friends by the end, knowing you had to keep your budget in mind, despite trying to have a good time with your friends. It was well after 1 in the morning when you finally stumbled home to your tiny apartment.
You were about to drift off to sleep, when one of your neighbors started yelling... It was gonna be a long night.
Nursing your coffee like a lifeline, you scowled slightly through the morning meeting. Another normal day in store, patrol with Shishido for the first half of the day, paperwork the second half. When the meeting finally came to an end you took the final sip of your coffee, already planning to snag another on your way back from patrol.
"The hell's wrong with you?" Bakugo fell into step beside you, the two of you had been paired up to follow Shishido this morning.
You gave him a sidelong glance, "Didn't get much sleep last night. Neighbors were arguing again."
"Tch. Told ya not to live there."
He had warned you. But in your defense it was the only place you could really afford. Your family wasn't in a position to help you, and if you were going to be any kind of high ranking pro, you needed to work in big cities - otherwise you would fall from the public's consciousness.
"Didn't have a choice," you shrugged, letting the conversation drop.
The pair of you had always had this strange song and dance. Drifting into one another at random times before falling apart again, only to keep repeating the same patterns. It was never violent or tense, just two people who were used to having the rest of the group carry the conversation. You often existed in comfortable silence, at times understanding each other to a point you didn't need to communicate.
One of those moments was now, in the heat of combat in the middle of a busy street. Bakugo was shouting at civilians to get out of the way while Shishido was sprinting headlong after a villain in the process of leaping from building to building. Chunks of debris rained down, threatening to crush the people below.
You reached out with your quirk, catching the big pieces before they could crush anything and anyone beneath them; while Bakugo swooped in from above, flinging people out of the way before firing off blasts to the pieces you'd stop, breaking them up so you could lower them to the ground more easily.
It was exhausting work, made all the more frustrating by the damn villain shaking the tail Shishido had on him. As soon as you were informed, your eyes shot to Bakugo who gave you a nod. They two of you took off, gaining the elevation that Shishido couldn't. It took less than five minutes for the pair of you to locate and capture the fleeing villain.
The Pro was pissed the villain escaped him, but he didn't take that frustration out on you two. Instead when you returned to the office after patrol, he banned everyone from the training floor and disappeared. Every once in a while you would hear a muffled crash or feel the floor beneath you shake.
"Hey, that was good work out there," you leaned back in your chair, stretching. Bakugo was sitting at his desk to your left, his own papers arranged in neat stacks.
"'Course it was," his voice didn't have the same bite it usually did when people complimented him.
"We make a pretty good team ya know? Jus' sayin," you cracked a smile when you saw the tips of his ears turn pink.
He never responded, choosing to ignore you in favor of the reports in front of him. The remainder of the shift dragged by. Between filling out reports, going over various ongoing cases, and organizing data, (You weren't sure why you'd been given that task. You suspected it was because Shishido's assistant didn't actually know how to do their job) you were ready for warm food and sleep.
You'd just slung your bag over your shoulder and stepped out of the building to head for the bus stop when a voice rang out behind you.
"Oi! Got a question," Bakugo was walking behind you, his pace unhurried.
"What'd'ya want, Bakugo? I'm gonna miss the bus if I don't hurry."
"Tch, I'll drive ya."
You blinked in surprise.
"Don't look at me like that. If I make ya miss the bus then I'll just drive ya," he said it so casually. "Listen, your apartment sucks and I got an extra room, just move in 'til you find a better place."
You're pretty sure your brain short circuited; in fact, you felt a little like Kaminari.
"Sorry. What?"
"'M, not repeatin' myself. Ya want the room or not?" The pink tinge to his ears returned.
"Oh... yeah! Sure. That- that would be great!" His signature scowl never wavered, but there was a flash of something in his eyes. "I promise, I'll be out as soon as I can, I just gotta find some place closer to the agency."
"Tch, whatever," he was looking at something over your shoulder now. Turning to see, you watched your bus pull away, heading for the next stop. "C'mon, my cars this way."

A lot of people are REALLY WORRIED about the leaked Alito draft, and for good reason. If Roe vs. Wade is overturned, many states will enact trigger laws that revoke the right to safe abortion access. But that doesn’t mean that safe abortions won’t be possible. They’ll just be harder to access.
Fortunately, we aren’t powerless. There are things we can do to help preserve the right to abortion and, if Roe falls, help people get the abortions they need.
Here are some actionable things you can do to help!
Donate to your local abortion fund.
This is a financial commitment, obviously, but these funds are vital to helping people access abortions. There are different types of funds. Practical funds help with transportation, housing, and other practical needs. Clinical funds help with paying for the procedure. Both types of funds are necessary and helpful!
If you’re in a state with protected abortion access, see if there’s a practical fund in your state that you can donate to. These funds make it possible for people for other states to afford travel and lodging in your state. You might also want to consider donating to funds in states or regions that have trigger laws, like the Yellowhammer Abortion Fund, which helps people in Mississippi, Alabama, and the Deep South.

As of writing this, a lot of abortion fund websites are completely overwhelmed. Lots of people are rightfully upset and looking for some way to help. Many of these funds have hotlines that you can help out directly from your own phone! Google “abortion fund + your state (or your region) + hotline” and see what comes up. These hotlines are going to be SWAMPED soon and many orgs are going to be onboarding volunteers very quickly to help deal with the onslaught.
Donate to grassroots causes.
I love Planned Parenthood as much as the next gal, but donating to them isn’t actually going to help as much right now as donating to an abortion fund. Smaller, grassroots networks are going to be more effective at allocating resources to the people who need it most. Independent clinics are also going to need substantial help. Independent clinics provide the majority of abortion care in the US, and many are the only clinics operating in hostile states. Check out https://keepourclinics.org/ if you’re interested in donating.
Make a list of resources.
There are a lot of people out there who aren’t going to have the time or energy or emotional bandwidth to deal with this dumpster fire. If you have the capacity to do so, then maintain a file somewhere with the following information:
- any abortion funds that serve your area with their contact info- email and phone and links
- any abortion hotlines in your area
- national care hotlines, ESPECIALLY RAINN because this is going to be really, really hard on survivors
-a list of crisis pregnancy centers in your area, clearly marked with their names, contact info, and primary links. Make sure that these are highlighted in a way that separates them from the actual abortion providers because these centers are highly predatory and manipulate people who are distressed and confused. If somebody has access to that list and know who’s operating in an area, it might help them avoid these places!
Have this file ready to go so that you can share it with people who are overwhelmed!
Help the safe havens.
Losing Roe feels inevitable at this point. It might not be, but the world is terrifying. However, some states are safe havens and will maintain abortion access, regardless of what SCOTUS eventually decides. Practical access funds in these states will need help because they will help people traveling from unsafe states to safe states. Refer to this map: https://reproductiverights.org/maps/what-if-roe-fell/
Look for funds in states that are blue or yellow. This means they have expanded access or protection if Roe falls. But be sure to hover over and look at the summary of the protection– for example, Florida has abortion protection, but they just passed a 15-week ban. That’s basically protection in name only!
If you’re not sure which practical fund you’d like to support, I highly suggest the Midwest Access Coalition.
