One year out of Buffalo
I left Buffalo one year ago, and I’m always surprised to see that the blog lives on. It’s crazy and inspiring to see how many people that love my hometown are still reblogging and exploring the site. I keep tabs on my city, and I love seeing Buffalo Rising articles about all the new and great things happening there. I’ve been traveling the country with my fiance for the past year, and I have found there are some things that you just can’t find anywhere except Western New York. Here are some of the things I’ve been missing... make sure you appreciate these simple things for me!
- LOGANBERRY! (and loganberry milkshakes from Teds!)
-Wegmans. No shopping experience has even come close... and we’ve been to a TON of grocery stores.
-FREE Canalside activities. I haven’t stumbled upon a free yoga class yet.
-Free GOOD music. There’s no TITS (or Thursdays at the Harbor for the noobs). Or the venues we find have no variety, or cost too much money.
-Lake Erie. I miss fresh water and shark free beaches. Being out west has been pretty dry, with parched creekbeds, so go for a swim for me!
-Sahlen’s Hotdogs, nothing can compare.
-Cost of Living. We’ve visited some sweet cities, but the rent can’t compare to Buffalo!
-Fall. Western New York has a nice long season of sweaters, scarves and colorful leaves!
-Olmsted. I miss well designed parks! Open grass lots do not count as parks in my book!
-Buffalo’s traffic. Yes. I miss traffic. Simple 20 min traffic, not the 3 hour standstill traffic jams of big cities.
-Festivals and Events! Wings. Elmwood. Jazz. Chalk. Italian. City of Night. Buffalo Slow Roll. Shakespeare in the Park. And so on...
Of course, there are things we don’t miss too. Like 10 feet of snow, always finding Canadian change in your purse and gas prices, but no place has quite stolen my heart the way Buffalo did.
