BIOGRAPHY, triggers include: domestic violence, murder and parental death hinted at (read yujin's bio).
life at home had never been good. it was always chaos. a never ending cycle of screaming, broken plates and the sound of her mother crying from outside of the door of her shared bedroom. yujin was always the one she relied on. the one who did his best to shield her from the worst, but it could only do so much.
as they were growing up, yujin had always been the sort of protective big sibling (even if he were only a couple minutes older) and the rubbed off on buffy as well. where her brother was the kind of person who kept to himself, let the quiet do the talking for him, she'd been the exact opposite. someone who wasn't afraid to use her voice when needed. wasn't afraid of confrontation or even physical altercations. the kind of girl with so much pent up anger and, yet, had no place to release it.
that's when dance came into her life. at fifteen years old, dance had started as nothing more than an after school activity that could keep her out of the house longer. give her an excuse not to come home as soon as school was out for the day. it went from one to two classes a week, to three and the extra two school days she'd use as an excuse to practice... and it helped. not only with not going home, but it gave her an outlet. a place to release all the emotions she'd been keeping pent up inside and express them in a way that didn't hurt anybody (for the most part).
not only did dance essentially become her whole life, but the friends she met while dancing. particularly one friend that instantly grew to be one of her best friends: someone she could confide in the way she's never been able to do with other people. that friend knowing all the darkest parts of buffy's life and vice versa.
what started as occasional weekends of sleeping over turned into every weekend.. then to every other day until the point where buffy was hardly ever home. as much as she loved her brother, she couldn't take anymore. couldn't stay within those walls for a second longer than she needed to be.
then she was sixteen and an offer on her plate that she couldn't refuse. her best friend suggested that they run away together— to live with one of their family members in los angeles. someone who didn't ask questions. they were already going for reasons of their own, but wanted buffy to come with them. she accepted without any hesitation.
only, when she got home to collect her things, her father refused to let her leave. drunk and belligerent like always— even going as far as throwing a plate in her direction. if bomi hadn't moved, it would've hit her. she had no choice then but to call the only person she could think of. yujin.
everything after that felt like a blur. her body was moving, but her mind was elsewhere. she cowered away into a corner— hands trembling as they covered her ears, eyes squeezed shut and she hadn't moved until she heard her brother's muffled voice. telling her to go. which she did without a second thought.
it had been twelve years since she took off. got herself a ged (with a little forgery) and began to persue a career with dance and focus on building the life she wanted for herself and she was doing an amazing job at it.
going from the struggling new kid in a new city, taking dance classes whenever she could to building herself up the dance ladder. from learning student, to someone who was often getting chosen to be in the social media uploads, to becoming a full time backup dancer as well as a choreographer. touring, being in music videos. honestly, this was the life she always dreamed about. a career she loved, a set of good friends by her side and had even gone as far to give love a chance. it was almost everything she could've asked for. though, without her brother, it'd never actually be perfect.
which only lasted for so long. on the outside, they looked in love (and they were) but behind closed doors, it was another story. with both of them being as fiery as they were, all they did was butt heads. screaming match after screaming match. they'd fight, they'd make up as if he hadn’t put a hole in the wall or broke something because of how hard he threw it. red flags always being explained or justified in buffy’s mind because at least he wasn’t aiming for her.
then this night happened. he was drunk and took it a step too far. a line that should've never been crossed. rather than just arguing, it was belittling. calling her out of her name, insulting her. saying things that he's never said to her before. she tried to walk away, but he snatched her by the arm and forced her closer to him and then he struck her for the first time. it wasn’t the wall or something closer, he did it too her. that triggered a fight or flight moment, realization hitting her all at once. this man was no different than the mess she’d tried running from and judging by the hands that still gripped her arm, it scared her. took less than a second before buffy reached for anything she could on the kitchen counter and swung it against his head— forcing him to let her go, few more insults being tossed her way as he held his bleeding head. she left.
it's been a month since she walked back into her brother's life. small drops of blood on her clothes as she watched her brother's face appear from the other side of the door. the only person she could think of to go to after it happened.
HEADCANONS,
this is her career claim in terms of dance.
is still very much dancing because it is her whole life, but she spends most of her time at a new dance studio— with an trip to los angeles every now and then.
we say that dancing is her release, but she's still very much a hot-head and it doesn't take much to get a rise out of her. if you get on her bad side, or if she just doesn't like you, you'll know.
has really axed the idea of having a relationship with anybody because she really can't trust anyone to that extent and as we can see with her last, it's not hard to understand why. she'll much prefer having people at arms length.
if you're a friend, she will treat you like family and will rage war if anyone mess with them.
her life goal is to be a famous dancer. the kind of dancer that would have celebrities fighting over.
