Vintage Prahvus finished today
Great day today :-) I finished coloring my latest work: Prahvus the evil guy from 200x cartoon series. Episode "Out of the past". The Sorceress tells the story where she visits this village (from where Stinkor originally came from) and helps the people defending themselves against Prahvus...
Prahvus wears a magic glove that can shoot some kind of energy blasts. He has an armour around his shoulder and has this remarkable coloring on his body.
Base color ist greyish blue-black :-) with a little purple touch. I used an air brush for that. Together with this light shining blue - I think it looks good.
Battle Lion needs King Grayskull first
And since I do not have the King yet, Battle Lion will not be published. It is finished, but more or less a test for my sculpting skills. I will show you later. The mane was made with modelling clay and I used this epoxy 2k stuff for armour parts ... Actually it sucked :-)
So BL is nothing I am proud of. Pictures follow anyway.
Battle Lion will be next
I was very flashed by the pre-filmation storyline, provided first (for me at least) by the 200x cartoon series. I love the idea of King Grayskull, Veena (who I find extremely lovable) and Battle Lion (being such a huge creature).
So I will customize a vintage Battle Lion based again (...) on Battle Cat.
I do not want him to have a flowing mane made of any kind of fabrics (like Grizzlor). I would sculpt a mane from modeling clay, tail tip, too, maybe some lion-y mane/fur parts on legs and chest...
Basically It's gonna be a bigger Batte Cat with modified saddle and some additional armour.
The green color is most challenging...we'll see.
There she is - the Green Goddess like I imagine her. I used an Evil Lynn body and a Teela head (her body was broken). I airbrushed it with Vallejo green tones. Lime green, duck green, white, ...
The clothes are painted with Vallejo "gunship green" and some olive mixture...
The golden color is a mix of Revells gold and silver enamel colors. The boots are red-brown and sanded with a Tamiya set. Also the cobra parts have been added some Tamiya rust...
All blue tones (lips, jewels) are Vallejo pale blue and dark blue.
Green Goddess finished today
A new member of my customs collection just got status finished :-) The green goddess, pre-filmation mini comic version. Classic vintage limawohasoit! (means like Mattel would have sold it) Pics tomorrow.
Again Keldor without the prototype cloak...
Keldor - the first custom I ever made.
What parts for Keldor?
Man-at-arms legs, Webstor body and pants, Adam arms and a Jitsu head seem to fit well. I will sew a cloak (the missus will) or build one of some plastics / foil (like Hordaks's). The head will have to be "extended" with more hair. Longer hair. I will use modelling clay for this, since I do not have any experience with that, I simply have to start with something...
As for the armor it will be Skeletors armor, in black with some additional colorings. For now I do not have a decent sword for the guy, maybe I will use Jitsu's.
As for the colors of his body parts I am thinking normal skin tone fading to a pale blue showing his inner "Skeletor-ness" :-)
More to come...
Who's the first character?
Keldor will be my first MotU custom figure I decided today. Why? Because he is more or less a “normal” human being and has a nice story around him. That, by the way, is important for me. I like the idea of Keldor being Randor’s brother. I think of him as his rival brother, half evil the day he was born. Maybe, he is younger than Randor and was always trying to sit on the throne. In his heart anger grew up, hating good people until he fell too deep…
Thats my interpretation of Keldor. Of course the 2002 cartoon gives information about lots of characters that also found their way into the MotUC line, but since there are different interpretations and branches, and several lines to tell the same story, I really feel free about that.
Airbrush it is...
I saw a lot of customs, which of course did inspire me. And hands down, I will in a way copy customs that already exist just because I saw them somewhere else before. I'd like to apologize in advance, in case someone feels robbed.
Using a simple brush doesn't seem to be the right choice, so I had a closer look at airbrush sets. I could get quite a good set with a compressor, several airbrushes (revell flex, ...) and lots of colors for a reasonable price. I did switch from enamel colors to water-based acrylics (Vallejo) though.
It took a while for me to understand the topic and I did some test runs just the other day. In the end I think that trying to colorize my figures (which are still only in my head) with an air brush ist the right decision. For special parts I do own some Revel enemal colors. Maybe now and then they will be more suitable. But only for normal paint works - airbrushing is water-based only, because of the smell and the cleaning process. :-)
Welcome to Eyas Stormwolf's Masters Of The Universe website, inspired by the themes of the original toyline, and featuring a full-length fantasy adventure novel called GRAYSKULL.
When I first visited this site, several weeks ago, it was the first time that I realized how big a community has grown around the Masters from Eternia. I knew about fan-arts, customs and the huge collectors scene, but that there are tons of stories about (Min-)Eternia I did not have a glue.
When I started reading the stories I was really into it. I will definately read all of them. I love characters like Alya or Taranek and the scenarios and landscapes are beautifully described. Thanks alot for this website!
A long way to start
Two years ago, I planned to do some custom figures based on Mattel's "Masters of the Universe" toyline from the 80s. I definately wanted to stay close to the vintage style. The idea was to create figures or even new characters in the way Mattel would have done it. I wanted the new guys to be as "original" as possible, leaving shiny accessories, golden and silver coloring, diamond-like plastics aside. At least most of the time. Never did something like this before, wasn't even sure how to paint my parts? Do I want to use an airbrush, a normal brush, will there be sculpting and modelling. What would I have to buy? Too many questions, so I dropped it...for then.
