big city greens is unfortunately one of those shows that doesn’t understand how characters of certain ages realistically act
it also has the gravity falls issue of an art style that requires any character under the age of 18 to be smaller than they’d realistically be
with cricket and tilly some of their behavior is that of much younger children and then they suddenly have the emotional intelligence of older teenagers
i don’t think the writers 100% understand the brains of kids 10-12 i’m ngl 😭
i don't use tumblr often and the replies are limited on this post, but this is really is such a common writing issue in not even just kids shows LMAO
it's honestly so entertaining to see
i think episodic shows like bcg get it the worse, and ESPECIALLY kids episodic shows with the curse of inconsistent characterization.
also, i'd love to point out what's left in the comments because THANK YOU.
i'm probably not the first person to say this, but jesus christ. the parenting shown in the show can be so inconsistent which feels like another writing oversight or somehow an intentional decision made.
in the note of how the show characterizes the kids and their maturity levels episode to episode there's honestly an issue with how bill gets characterized (ESPECIALLY SEASON 4)
but, yeah. respect to you op fun interesting observation that i never really considered since this type of inconsistent characterization is so commonplace
yeah man thanks for the response
i dislike how much the maturity of the adults fluctuates as well
in what world does gentle anxious safety loving bill get so jealous of his son he literally body slams him multiple times 😭😭😭 like what the fuck 💔
and him and nancy’s wildly different parenting techniques are directly responsible for a lot of cricket’s maniac behavior lol
oohh my word don't even mention skipped over😭😭 i can't even rewatch that episode because it's just pure bill flanderization hell
bills flanderization is probably my least favourite in the show because i don't think he's the best father, but they exaggerate it so? extreme?? especially with his anxious traits so they end up just making him look like a bumbling buffoon (a flaw that became so noticeable in season 4)
but, YEAH! the parenting techniques definitely have an influence of crickets manic behaviour, but also the show characterizes bill with his own form of manic which gets glossed over due to it's characterization being "haha look at this mentally ill father who can't hold himself together"
i also think a lot of crickets behaviour can stem from him knowing he's the least favourited between him and tilly
(the beginning of big trouble is the most obvious and infuriating example to my good lord)
so i feel as if he's chiller with getting in trouble since he KNOWS and expects to be reprimanded while tilly gets to go on home-free.
sorry, i ADORE getting to ramble about the characterization of these characters i hope im not making this longer than it has to be LMAO
lowkey gotta post on tumblr i do like this format and the ui
also it would make the "no reposts" in my bio make sense if i actually posted art and stuff LMAO

are there any bcg storyboards or doodles you wouldnt mind showing(from older seasons of course)? i really love seeing the whimsical behind the scenes stuff!!
especially now that season four is out- i remember you mentioned some secrets for unused long goodbye scenes... SPILL THE DEETS
I don’t have access to the boards anymore, but originally it was Chip’s dad visiting the graveyard with the bouquet! Chip was visiting and comforting him as a mysterious stranger…I think maybe (emphasis on maybe, not a writer here) that it’s one of those things that got changed because 1. It’s a bit sad, maybe too sad when it’s supposed to be a suspenseful moment 2. It left open this idea that his dad would play a bigger part in the story later when that wasn’t the case 3. Leaves open the idea that there might be some reconciliation later, which wasn’t what happened. Again, not part of the writing team but those are my guesses.
Working with characters that have long story arcs can be tricky because you want to keep track of what is revealed when to keep it more suspenseful. I like the final version more anyway cuz I like the graveyard guy with his little doggie (thanks Jon Wallach!)
Posting this here too!!! Comm me for art and stuff pleasee
I do yumeships, selfcest, crossships any non problematic ship u can think off so dont be scared of a no!!!^_^ plsplspls
