My favorite book EVER is Bunny by Mona Awad, I have read all of her books and she is my favorite author!

My Review: Holy fuck. This book has to be the darkest one I have EVER read. I’m usually not one for “extreme” horror because I feel it often relies on shock value rather than a well thought out plot or overall message. That’s not to say this book isn’t shocking because well…it absolutely is. Every page has something that would make the FBI gasp. However, this book (in my opinion) did it well. It’s experimental and provocative in its exploration of sexuality, desire, how powerful the internet is, and the human experience. It’s unflinching and never lets up with prose that is disjointed and almost…alienating. This is NOT a book for everyone and if you are sensitive to…well about anything then maybe skip this one. However, if you’re aren’t scared to dive deeper into critiques of the modern relationships and human psyche, then pick it up. This book is raw, taboo, sick, and vile, but damn if it didn’t have me enraptured the whole time I was reading it.

Book Review!

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

Synopsis: “The daughter of a Taiwanese father and white mother, Vi Liu has never quite fit into her Midwestern college town. Aimless after getting dumped by her boyfriend and dropping out of college, Vi works at the front desk of a hotel where she greets guests, refills cucumber water samovars, and tries to evade her bubbly blond coworker, Rachel. Little does Vi know her life is about to be permanently transformed when she agrees to a night out with Rachel. In the alley outside the bar, Vi discovers a strange blob—a small living creature with beady black eyes. In a moment of concern and drunken desperation, she takes it home.

But the blob is no ordinary pet. Becoming increasingly sentient, it begins to grow, shift shape, and obey Vi’s commands. As the entity continues to change, Vi is struck with a daring idea: she’ll mold the creature into her ideal partner. Feeding it a stream of sweet breakfast cereals and American pop culture, the creature grows into a movie-star handsome white man. But when Vi’s desire to be loved unconditionally threatens to spiral out of control, she is forced to confront her lonely childhood, her aloof ex-boyfriend, and the racial marginalization that has defined her relationships—a journey of self-discovery that teaches her it’s impossible to control those you love.”

My Review: I’m honestly disappointed with this book :(!! People were making this out to be weird, different, and something new, but honestly I don’t know if it was any of those things! While it was slightly odd, it definitely wasn’t as WEIRD as people were making it out to be. This is definitely more of a coming of age story, than a weird, quirky story. I can deal with shitty and annoying characters in my books, in fact I embrace them! However, this book was filled with so many annoying characters and by the end I was worn out! I also feel like a lot of the relationships in this book weren’t fleshed out, and left a lot to be desired (EX: Vi and Luke, Vi and Alex). I think either this book needed to be longer or just more focused on different things. I did like the aspects of growing up different and talking about aspects of race, class and identity, however I just wished it digged DEEPER! The ending also just did not do it for me. Overall, I think this would have just been better as a character study or regular literary fiction than having the Blob.
